I took MEH (Modern European History) in school this past year, and we learned about a scientific philosophe of the time, Jeremy Bentham.

Bentham worked with Kant, and Bentham came up with the idea that an object is there, only because you need it there. If your confused, let’s say a table is there because you will need it. And if you don’t need what ever it is there, it will vanish…the island maybe?. (John Locke was also a European philosophe…do Cuse and Lindeloff like Euro History?) Also, Bentham was big on utalitarianism…”the greatest happiness for the greatest amount of people.” We know after Jack leaves the island, Bentham supposedly tells him that terrible things happened after he left, and it is all his fault. Also, Locke becomes the leader of the others…maybe we can fit utalitarianism in there…i know this is more history than LOST, but I had to share my idea with you all…so comment away! (Cuse also said to find more info, read the bible…)

wow! Great research! That is good stuff! The producers have hinted at reading the Bible for more info on Lost. This can be found by reading the bible:

The stick Eko had with the scripture on it for John…. “Lift your eyes to the north John 3:05” That actual scripture is Genesis 13:14 where God is speaking to Abraham, the father of the Israelites.

The meaning of the word Genesis means “to be born, to come into being”. Possibly a new beginning for the people on the island, especially when you take into account the scripture of John 3:5—”Jesus answered, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, unless a man is born of water and [even] the Spirit, he cannot [ever] enter the kingdom of God”. Again, more reference to being made new….new beginnings.

But, the Israelites faced a new beginning of what turned out to be several years of turmoil. Does this sound like the trouble the losties are facing on the island?

Genesis 13:14 scripture—”The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west.”

As referenced, Abram’s name was changed to Abraham—after displaying deep faith! Sound like John Locke?(A man known for his faith) We also learn that Locke changed his name. If you look up the meaning of the name Jeremy, it means: “God will raise up; God will set free”. This is relevant because we learned that Locke is now the leader of the people.
