.

If you remember the recent Locke-centric episode, the name escapes me at the time, you’ll remember the test Alpert administered to a young Locke. In the test, Locke was told to choose from items that were his. Obviously, Locke failed.

Alpert, however dissapointed he was at the time, always felt Locke should have done better. That’s why he seemed happy to ‘Welcome home’ Locke when he emerged from the Orchid.

This may have been posted before, but the test given to Locke is much in the way of the test given to candidates to be the next Dalai Lama. For example, each candidate has to choose articles that are ‘his,’ which actually belonged to the most recent Dalai. To choose the correct three items is a sign they are ‘one in the same spirit’ with the previous Dalai Lama and that’s how they ascend to the position.

Locke’s destiny (at least in Alpert’s eye) was to be the next leader of the island. Judging by comments ‘Bentham’ made to Jack and Ben post-island leads us to believe all did not go well. That means Locke was not the rightful heir.

That is why Jack must go back. To lead the island is his rite. Christian is the voice of Jacob, which seems to coincide quite well with Jack’s meaning to the island. Despite Jack’s dimensia at the current time, he has finally realized that the island - and everyone on it - needs him there.

So, what you’re saying is that Jack is the true leader of the Others. I’m not in total disagreement with you on this, it does seem to fit, but why do they all need to go back?

Yeah but why does he have to take everyone else with him?

You know the moment i heard Ben tell Jack that he needed to take the O6 plus Locke’s corpse back to the island, I imagined them figuring out a way to get them all to get on an airplane and “coincidentally” be on the same flight but not know it just like at the beginning. i mean i kinda see that as the only way for them to get back to the island is by putting it into the hands of fate to decide.
