So they needed an animal that wouldn’t freeze in the extreme cold and strong and smart enough to push the wheel.

— jonlaw

I think I’ve figured out the polar bears…finally. Dharma brought them there to “move” the island.

All the pieces are there. The tunnels and caves where most of the stations were built, were probably there long before Dharma. Dharma was sent to the island and built the stations at existing caves that were built by some ancient people. (Remember in the finale with Ben and his Dharma and their silly little experiments comment). Dharma found the cold room with the ice wheel and built the Orchid station next to it and a chamber to channel the energy. However, before closing off the tunnel to the ice cave, they wanted to experiment with “turning the wheel” or “moving” the island. They didn’t want to use people but animals (note all the bunny experiments). So they needed an animal that wouldn’t freeze in the extreme cold and was strong and smart enough to push the wheel. Presto - polar bears! Dharma captured some polar bears and trained them to manipulate machines (ala the fish biscuit cage at the Hydra). The bears were then taken to the Orchid and moved the the ice wheel. Boom, the island moved and a polar bear was sent to Tunisia (just like Ben). Charlotte found the remains of such a bear with its Dharma tag still attached. There you have it….bear mystery finally answered.

I’d originally thought the polar bears were there for some sort of genetic testing to adapt them to a tropical climate or what not, but now I’m pretty convinced they were just there to move the ice wheel.

The next question is, was this the “clue” from the pilot episode the producers mentioned that would indicate this was all planned from the beginning? It certainly seems like a strong candidate to me.

Holey… that’s it, pretty sure you’ve nailed the whole polar bears affair! I think your theory will hold true till the end!

    Thanks!

I like this a lot! This has to be right. And it feeds in perfectly to my theories about the island location and the way it was “moved”. One of the problems with my theory was that if the Island was in ancient Tunisia, would a polar bear skeleton really preserve that well over such a long time? I still think it could, at least in TV logic.

But now with you figuring out they used a polar bear to turn the wheel before, it gives a better explanation of how the bear skeleton ended up in the desert there - which is of course that it got there the same way Ben did.

Of course, I think that the Island didn’t move - that the bear just moved the location of the portal to the island, and that the bear itself only moved in time from ancient times to present day, ending up in the dried up desert that the island had become over time.

I think you totally nailed the polar bears ;) +1!

I really didn’t like the episode too much but the fact that you solved the polar bear question makes me like last nights episode a little more…just a little. Good call.

So then the exotic matter that powered the time machine was in the wheel vault right? And the time machine had to be blown up in order to access the donkey wheel? Doesn’t that mean that if the island really was moved previously then it must have been moved before the time machine was put there? That make sense to me assuming that the experimenters did not know the nature of the exotic matter until they experimented with the polar bears.

Has anyone discovered the significance of the hieroglyphics yet? there are hieroglyphics in the cold place now too as well as on the door in Ben’s house and on the hatch.

Anyways this stuff makes sense but i still think the polar bears could have been used for the biological stuff too. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

    +1

Of course! You did nail it, I’m sure. Speaking of CLUES…..I wonder if Adam is Locke?

i like this a lot too, my only thing is…it doesnt seem like a polar bear could fit through the hole ben came in through, whether there is another entrance or it was created to be that size on purpose, we don’t know yet. Dont get me wrong though, I want this to be right.

I don’t know…how would the polar bears know when to stop turning the wheel? And to me, the wheel thingy looked less like a grind stone thingy, and more like a cross between a ship’s steering wheel and a compas-like dial turny pointy thingy. You know? But I have bad reception, so it was hard for me to tell.

Dang! Good job! Rufus_Filbert- I don’t think the Polar bears needed to know when to stop, Ben just seemed to disappear once he reached a certain point.

good one! Besides, polar bears are known to be very clever animals, therefore being a good choice for training. One thing I don’t get though…. Why is it so cold in that cavern?

I liked this theory when I read it on DarkUFO this morning. Small act of plagarism methinks. Shame.

I’d say DarkUFO plagarized, because I first posted this May 30.

Maybe because Mrs Sawyer speaks the truth, X.

Slamming this theory is total crap. I posted this 4 days before it was ever posted on DarkUFO This was posted May 30, appeared first on DarkUFO on June 2. There really are some freaking idiots on this website, who can’t even read a date of posting. Funny, this theory was already a +22 before DarkUFO even posted. Hmmmm…how could I have plagiarized when my theory was up 4 days earlier. kid_vicious30 (member 5 days) and karmashark (member 6 days), both of you and the folks like you down grading this original theory are total idiots who can’t even read a date or are just jealous that someone beat your little precious DarkUFO out of the gate.

Oh and what wonderful history of postings you two morons have put up. f-u.

@JonLaw Can’t speak to your theory mate but whose leg are you trying to pull with all the votes? People aren’t as wankered as you seem to think they are yeah. So who’s the real moron mate. That’d be you yeah.

  22. Karmashark Jun 3, 2008 7:41 p.m. Comment: 22

Trying to draw attention away from yourself being a cheat won’t work JonBoy. Calling people morons because they see through you doesn’t change a thing. We recognize when we step in a pile of it by the smell.

  23. jonlaw Jun 3, 2008 8:09 p.m. Comment: 23

exactly how can I be the moron? britishchib, did you look to see whether Karmashark or the other had any theories or registered on the site more than week. It’s obvious these yokel’s have registered on this site multiple times after getting booted off, and just keep coming back to screw with everyone on here. That was my point.

I’ve never attacked anyone on this site and been here over year…so yeah, this is total B.S. God forbid I actually put up a real theory or participate.

I don’t care if people disagree with the theory, fine vote against it. But to flag on of the better theories recently posted on this site, because people don’t bother to check the actual dates when things are posted. Nice presumed guilty. My point was, that no one flag or voted against this theory until a similar theory went up later on another site. And then people who won’t check the dates just start flaming away.

I hope this site is taken down and stays down for good, clearly most of the real fans have left. Hell, I’m probably arguing back with the same dude who has 8 accounts anyway, and thinks this is all hilarious. Bye jerk offs. Sorry I ever contributed.

Damn I was just gonna make a new theory about the Polar Bears moving the wheel. I was talking to my brother and I was telling him I have a theory why Charlotte found the Polar Bear collar in Tunsinia. Because a polar bear moved the wheel. Im glad im finally on the right track with at least one theory.

Just checked and Jonlaw did post this first!

Interesting theory, I think you maybe right. At first I thought Walt mande the polar bears appear but what your saying makes sense. +1 from me :)
