To answer my own question i would say “No, but they came close”.
Very disappointing episode in my opinion. The Nikki/Paolo episode was more entertaining.
The only good thing I can take way from last night is that I am currently not yearning for more so I could patiently wait until next season.
Here is a list of grievances (in no order):
1- Conversation w/ Walt could have been good but turned out to be virtually useless.
2- The fact that Jack came up w/ the plan to “lie”…it made no sense to me! I understand that if they didn’t lie the world might think that they were crazy but how would it protect the ones left behind? Widmore would still be looking for the island regardless.
3- Time travel plot completely glossed over.
4- Production value in the “frozen Donkey Wheel” scene was laughable.
5- “Locke in The Box” scene was completely anti-climactic.
6- Yet another faction! We have the Losties, the Others, the Freighter people, Widomore, Mr. Paik and within these factions there are also mini-factions (ie. losties seperating, Others losing confidence in Ben, the Captain and Keamy, etc.). Now we have the “Ghost” faction! It appears that ghost-Claire (and maybe even ghost-Christiian) do not want the Losties to return yet ghost-Charlie does (told Hugo that “they need your help”).
7- Jack…as annoying as ever! He sees his dead father walking around, he recognizes Desmond as someone he has met before, he saves Locke from a smoke monster, he sees an island disappear in front of his eyes and he is still in denial. This is not a man of science this is a man of stupidity.
8- We have been waiting for the Orchid and this is what we get?!?!
all the ghosts are forms jacob . jacob can take different forms. Ithought yesterday was the best episode of lost ever but opinions are like asses, everybody gots one, there all different
i hear sex and winning the lottery can be awful, too, if you’re in a bad mood…..
If you want to equate this episode w/ sex and the lottery than I think you better consider raising your standards…this was an inferior episode.
I like the comment ‘opinions are like asses, everyone has one’. I’d just like to add that they also all have a hole in them and also a crack…
In response to your grievances:
1- Not useless… Walt wanted to know why they were lying, same reason you wonder… and he gave us insight into Bentham (Locke) visiting him also.
2- Hmmm.. But if they told the truth about island healing, smoke monsters, appearing cabins etc. , and a fake plane, then I think alotta people would be looking for an “Island ” that caused all this.
3- We have alotta time for time travel insight.. I don’t think they wanted to turn it fully science fiction on us just yet.
4- Yea… that did suck…lol whoever built it must have been ancient and I think that’s what they were going for.
5- So many theories of who’s in the coffin, is it Locke, is it Michael?!?… when Michael died, was pretty sure who it was… anti-climatic, but still begs the “how?!”
6- Whose side are you on.. Because I can’t tell whose good or bad anymore…..
7- Poor Jack… caught in a Time Loop and doesn’t even know it… hopefully you will believe next go around….
8- And we will be waiting til next season, to answer this crap…..ughhhhhh
Thanks for your feedback but let us revisit your response to my #2…How would the whole world looking for the island endanger the “Lefties” (losties left behind)?
If Jack said that in the wrong hands the island would be dangerous that I could understand, but to protect the “Lefties”?…still makes no sense to me.
You very obviously don’t get Lost because that was the best episode ever. It explains so much.
Explain to me how the meeting with Walt could have been better. The poor boy misses his dad which is why he came.
Jack didn’t come up with the lying thing. Locke did. And it’s about protecting the Island. Jack just THINKS it’s about protecting the people in the Island.
They couldn’t go too deep into the time travel thing. It would have become WAY too convoluted. But I’m sure they’ll go into more stuff like that next season.
The donkey wheel thing was awesome. It’s very symbolic. This is Ben’s repentance. He descends into a cold pit and literally shifts the Island with his bare hands. I think he needed to push something. What did you have in mind? He could care less if everyone on The Boat gets blown to smithereens but he saves the Island. That’s important.
How was the Locke in a box thing anti-climactic. HOW DID HE GET OFF THE ISLAND?!!
There are no ghosts. They are all the “voice” of the Island appearing in different forms.
Jack can’t accept. He needs to have a stable world view. He’s a doctor and that was part of his training. It takes a lot to change everything you believe in. It’s easy to say what you do from your comfy armchair but you didn’t go through the stuff Jack did.
Remember that we watched this stuff over years. This is just a few months for Jack. He goes from being a surgeon, never experiencing anything more weird than a medical miracle, and suddenly he’s on an Island that messes with him at every turn. Frankly I’m surprised he hasn’t completely lost his mind. Oh right, he ends up addicted to pills. Why am I not surprised?
LAST POINT: Read up a little on the Casimir effect. This was nothing short of genius.
In short, you don’t deserve to watch the show since it’s absolute brilliance is wasted on you. THE END. :)
Calm down Jen… and what I don’t deserve is having to read an angry comment from an equally angry dyke like yourself.
But I will respond to your counter points:
1- You think a one minute interaction involving a character that has been billed to be ‘special’ since the show started and has hardly been seen from or heard from in awhile is brilliant?!?! “See Spot Run” is probably a stroke of literary genius in your eyes!
2- I realize Locke said to lie first and I also realize I called Jack a man of stupidity but he really must be stupid (and you as well) if he didin’t know that Locke is trying to protect the island and if he believes this lie will protect the “Lefties”.
3- An off the cuff comment like “…time traveling bunny” was ridiculous.
4- I understand that your intelligence level may be low so let me try to explain it to you in terms you can grasp…I said the production VALUE was laughable…this means the set that the scene was filmed on and the props used were fake and cheap looking.
5- Once again I am questioning your comprehension…that means YOU DON”T underestand S#&T…the identity of the person in the coffin was the question not how he got there! It’s anti-climatic because by watching the episode you knew (or at least I did) who it was before they actually showed it to you.
6- Oh really? If the visions are the islands way of communicating than why does it appear to be giving mixed messages through it’s different manifestations?
7- Neither did Jack you psyhco…it’s a TV show not a documentary!
In closing…I realize that all of this happened over a few months (again I point out that it is a TV show) but that should have nothing to do with someone figuring out that the walking dead and smoke monsters are not everday events.
And I do not need to read about the Casimir effect as I knew of it before I ever watched this show.
my head hurts
@3MTAE I think all your points in your initial post are valid. On this site, it’s sacreligious not to love every single thing the writers come up with. Jen26grl obviously disagrees but I laugh when she says “You very obviously don’t get Lost because that was the best episode ever” (her opinion). I personally liked most of the finale but understand with all the hype, we expect a lot and can be easliy disappointed.
You may have come off track when you called her a dyke. Without that comment, you wouldn’t have been banished to “Trollish” section. The site has suffered much recently. This is the best opinion of this episode I’ve read . It should have stayed on the main page.
Other than the dyke comment, I thought your opinion was well thought out, explained and backed up. Good job Seth.
Thanks Seth…I appreciate your comments. Just an FYI, the “Dyke” comment came after my post was flagged as trollish and she was most likely the last one to flag as such. Thanks again.
lol
