how come then does penny not refer to this madness!!!

Question: In the constant desmond goes back to 8 years previous and tells a distraught penny that he will call her in 8 years….how come then does penny not refer to this madness in any of the desmond flashback conversations with him, (especially the conversation with desmond training for boat race with jack in the background) u would think it would be something that should be asked by penny, seen as they seem to see each other so little at that point!!! think about it, what would u think if someone tells u they will call u in 8 years and they need ur number, weird…
so is it possible that desmond created another timeline in the constant or something to that affect?
anyone….please!!!!

i think you should try and explain your question better.
What he is saying is that if Desmond went back 8 years to talk to Penny and that in all his other flashbacks he didn’t have any memory of this incident. For instance: 8 years ago he knew he was on a helicopter and flashing, but in flashbacks 4 years ago ,when he was training for his boat race, he had no idea about Jack in the future or the call he was supposed to make to Penny in current time. When he talks to her at the stadium he doesn’t mention it to her. Or…. does he know something? He does say to Jack “See you in another life brother…..” Hmmmmm….. maybe he knew all along.
Point is, since it appears he has no memory of his time tripping in flashbacks that took place after that incident that he must have created another parallel timeline or something. I see what you are saying, but I have a feeling he kinda knew all along, but didn’t piece it all together until it actually happened to him in current time.

I can’t explain why Penny doesn’t bring it up, but maybe Des just forgot. Faraday seems to have a problem remembering things, which is why he uses the notebook.
I think JW is right. The reason he didn’t know during the more current flashbacks is two fold, I think. 1) He has to live to the point in the future where the time shift occurs for it to have the required effect, 2) his consciousness that told Penny he would call is the consciousness from 2004, meaning that his 1996 consciousness will have no memory of what his 2004 consciousness did in 1996.
