The first thing I noticed was Jack’s shirt in the rescue photo: I think he’s wearing Sawyer’s shirt
— kselvog
I’ve been traveling, and I haven’t kept up to date with the theories. I looked through the first 4 pages and couldn’t find anything like this, so here goes. Now that the season is wrapping up, I decided to rewatch TNPLH to take a look at the rescue photo from the O6 press conference and see if there were any clues in it. I did notice that Hurley has the same shirt on in the photo that he has on in the current episode (green with white horizontal stitched lines/pattern), which led me to believe that this is all going to happen very soon in terms of the timeline of the show. In other words, it’s about to hit the fan. However, I started to look to see if everyone else had the same thing on, and they didn’t. The first thing I noticed was Jack’s shirt in the rescue photo: I think he’s wearing Sawyer’s shirt (tan button down) from the current episode (the one with blood spatter from the “other” who was shot near him. In the current episode, Jack is wearing a dark colored t-shirt. How or why on earth would Jack end up putting Sawyer’s shirt on???
Kate is also wearing a lighter colored shirt (in the rescue photo) than the one she has on, and Sayid is also wearing something different: a purple sleeved shirt in the rescue photo vs. a tank top later in the episode. You can’t see Sun, so nothing there to look at.
So, this could be coincidence and perhaps Hurley stays in the same shirt while all the rest of them have time to change clothes before the s—t hits the fan, but I think not! With everything going on, why would a few people have the time to change clothes while one person doesn’t? I guess this could be a continuity error as well, but you’d think with something that they know people are going to examine and re-examine, they’d be extra careful.
Does anyone remember back when Kate, Jack, etc. were taken by the others and they mentioned that Kate’s clothes had been burned? Do you think this may connect somehow?
This is pure wild speculation, but I’ve always thought since the beginning of this season after the rabbit duplication incident that eventually we were going to see a duplication with actual characters. If there are people time traveling (in body vs. the way Desmond does it via consciousness), then what DOES happen to the people who are already in that timeline? Supposedly they have to be very careful that the rabbits don’t see each other, so it makes sense that they would have to be just as careful with actual people.
If the others (especially Alpert who doesn’t age and probably moves around in time also) are in on all of this, then perhaps they have to be careful in switching people out and making sure that people from different times don’t accidentally run into each other. Maybe burning the clothes has something to do with covering all of this up???
So, if Hurley is the only one wearing the same clothes, perhaps he’s the only one who’s the “same.” Maybe Kate, Jack, Sayid, etc. are switched out somehow? In the flashforward at Hurley’s party he’s wearing an Ace of Spades shirt, and the ace of spades is the death card. Is it possible that somehow Hurley is already dead in some way because he wasn’t switched out? I’ve always thought it was funny that he’s the only one on the show who goes by 2 names: Hurley and Hugo, and recently I’ve noticed Ben calling him Hurley in one scene and Hugo in the very next scene…almost deliberately calling attention to it. I’m not sure how this all fits together, but it’s all swirling around in my head.
I recall another detail: When Mikhail says to Locke that the “Locke he once knew was…” and then he’s cut off. Perhaps there’s another Locke that remained paralyzed??
I wouldn’t be surprised if the conversation that Ben had with Locke in which he told him he needed to sit down, was when Ben explained this entire thing to him.
I’ve been thinking since this season that the characters have gone back and relived the events of the crash and the island more than once, and now I think the others may be actually switching them out somehow with their consent. Any ideas?? And yes, it’s a bit “out there,” but I’d like to hear actual ideas and alternate explanations rather than “this is stupid,” or “too far fetched for the average viewer.” If you can’t do any better than that, then don’t bother =)

Off the subject, the intro field doesn’t work when you post a theory. I had to re-post my first paragraph as an edit.
“I’ve always thought it was funny that he’s the only one on the show who goes by 2 names: Hurley and Hugo”
What about Sawyer and James?

didn’t think of that one…oops!
I like the double idea and that can have something to do with Jack telling Hurley to keep his mouth shut.
Now my question is which Kate is hotter?
Ghost, when did Jack tell Hurley to keep his mouth shut? Do you mean in the institution when he asks if he’s going to tell?
As for me, I’m only concerned about Sawyer rather than Kate…if there are two of him I’d like one =)
MAN. MAN OH MAN. People like you are what gives me hope for lost. Those dang trolls try their arses off to ruin this site, but I have hope that the others(trolls) will leave us beach people alone. Anyway, this is a really great theory. You mention that Mikhail starts to tell Locke he isn’t the Locke once knew. Good catch. I remember when Locke tells John right after Desmond splits “that’s not how it’s supposed to be this time”, which also might mean that everyone has been on the island before. If I could it would be +1000. But for now +1 and keep on fighting the good fight.
Sawyer and James hardly counts any more than Locke and John does. James’ real last name last name is Ford but he changed his name to Sawyer , Hurley is Hugo’s nickname. There is a difference because no one calls James “Ford” but it’s interesting that there are many characters that are referred to by their last names and / or their first’s.
as a large man myself, i can tell you that it isn’t easy to find clothing beyond XL. i would guess that hurley is a 5XL. there probably just aren’t many 5XL shirts on the island, thus his t-shirt rotation is short.
John - Sensible, Careful –-> Locke - Courageous, Daring Hurley - Carefree, Happy –—> Hugo - Concerened, Scared maybe Sawyer - Arrogant, aggressive ––-> James - Likes to read, chilled out Ben - Wants to be in control ––-> Linus - Wanted, A Threat
Two sides to every penny/nickel, not sure whether this has anything to do with the show, we can only wait and see. +1 though
Marvin Candle, Edgar Halliwax etc….. “Alias” are significant!!!!
Thanks joshnkari4ever2! I posted a theory back in March about them having relived the events before…I got a -5 but oh well. Here’s the theory if you’re interested. There are so many times in the show that Locke knows it’s going to rain, says “this wasn’t supposed to happen,” etc. that it’s hard to count. If they haven’t relived the events of the show somehow I’ll be quite surprised.

And to StoneGiant: Hurley changes his t-shirts as much as everyone else in the show…just go back and watch a few episodes. I’ve never seen him in the green shirt with the stripes before, but I could be wrong. That’s not really the point, though. My question is do you think that Kate, Jack, and Sayid will have time to change clothes before the rescue photo is taken?
I’m also sorry to have brought up the Hugo/Hurley thing. I guess it wasn’t well thought out, but I’m more interested in the clothing issue =)
