I believe that one of these tests was for Walt to select one of the 6 items (comic book, book of laws, compass, sand, knife, baseball glove) just as Locke did so many years ago.

I’ll make this quick. We know that Walt had special abilities/potential that the others were interested in, they ran tests on Walt in S2, Walt even mentions this to Michael when Michael comes to rescue him. I believe that one of these tests was for Walt to select one of the 6 items (comic book, book of laws, compass, sand, knife, baseball glove) just as Locke did so many years ago.

I read in someone elses post that they felt the baseball glove and comic book, if chosen, represented the test-takers wanting to just lead a normal life. I believe that we can assume that Walt chose the comic book, we have seen him read comic books before. And the others let Walt go, even though they wanted to capture him so badly. It is clear that the others were unhappy with Walt’s test results just as they were Lockes. The difference is that Walt simply chose to live a normal childhood life. Let me know what you think. SIP

Buddhists use these tests when searching for the next Dalai Lama.

im not saying otherwise, simply that walt was tested, and chose the comic book, symbolizing the fact that he wants to be a normal kid, which is why the others released him and michael.

Hi Shasty, I believe the Others released Walt because he became too hard to handle. Did you see any of the Missing Pieces? In one Juliet shows Ben many dead birds outside Walt’s window.

Maybe Walt was tested, but I don’t think that is the reason they were let go.
