I’ve got time.” - Jack (“Man of Science, Man of Faith”)

— shoegirl927

Something that the producers said in a recent interview got my attention(not a theory) In an article in EW Damon Lindelof said this-

The show will break her usual template. “You think the show is, ‘Okay, they’re on the Island, and then — whoosh — you’re in the past or the future.’ I think the audience is going to go, ‘How can the show continue to be that?’ And they are absolutely right.”

The producers also had this to say in The Honolulu Star Bulletin-

It’s entirely possible that the notion of what’s the past and what is the present and what is the future could change.”

WHAT???? I could have sworn I read in an interview that the flashforwards were in fact the future and it could not change. Any thoughts on this? I know that they have contradicted themselves before with the whole time traveling thing …(see below)

Though the writers have said “no time travel” specifically, Damon Lindelof also drops the hint that time may move differently on the island; for example, at Comic Con ‘06, where he responded to one fan’s question with: “It’s interesting that you should ask about time because… you know… you’re making a basic assumption that they’ve been there, y’know, as long as they think they’ve been there.” This controversial theory was “debunked” by Lindelof during the filming of Season 1. He said at the time, “There isn’t any time travel.” However, the events of “Flashes Before Your Eyes” appear to contradict that, and bring into question if the writing of the plot had been “course corrected” also at a later date. Why Producers contradicted this theory: In Flashes Before Your Eyes Desmond did go back in time (producers confirmed it), which means a character did reenter the Island through time travel. (all info from Lostpedia)

This is soooooooooooooo confusing but i love it. Any thoughts on what this could mean?

    shoegirl,

I agree; it’s all very confusing. I don’t think we can take anything the producers say at “face value.” They seem to changing their own minds on the subject of time and what it means on the island.

I particularly like their comment, ” the notion of past, present and future could change.” What? I agree with you; this is new! But again, I have to remind myself, that nothing they say can be taken at face value.
