there is no unknown clue in the pilot episode.

well… let me start by saying there is no unknown clue in the pilot episode. that’s right, no clue we don’t already know about. everyone’s been bringing it up over & over & over since the beginning of the series & i’m going slowly mental.
first it was the black smoke that swooped down & made the turbine explode… except this wasn’t it at all, as the producers debunked that.
then the tennis shoe was brought up… with all the debris & crap flying around from an airliner crashing, i didn’t think this was anything major at all, & nothing i’ve seen has changed my mind.
and now all the hooplah surrounding the baton that is supposedly beside jack when he wakes up… it could be anything! bamboo, random plane wreckage, a large polar bear turd, who the crap knows.
the page i’ve taken the below information from is labelled “persistent rumours” on lostpedia. i’ve copied & pasted the text directly:
Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof explicitly referred to this as a “false rumor” in the April 16, 2007 podcast, and gave a rundown on all the big mysteries from the Pilot and when and how those had been answered. The only real remaining mystery would be Charlie’s last line from the end of part 2, asking “Guys, where are we?”.
just wanted to make sure we’re all aware of this, as everytime someone starts bringing up the “pilot clue” i feel the vein in my head start to throb that little bit harder…

yeah but what about the oranges?
the oranges are a red herring!
Spirit, thanks for confirming this. I thought I remembered that podcast where they call this a false rumor. Now perhaps we can stop taking about batons in the pilot.
+1 spirit for bringing the documentation along with you! It has frustrated me as well. I do hope this settles it.
I read a script from the pilot and there was something in the script when Jack talked to cindy, the stewardess, about giving his first class seat to an old lady…clue or not?
I don’t know if this was in the actual airing…and I had to wipe out all my iTunes Lost episodes…
groovelady, you read a script from the pilot? Wow, how did you get it?? That’s really neat.
I have the Season 1 DVD set, so as soon as I get a chance I’ll take a look to see if it made it in.
Either way, though I don’t think that’s a clue. IMHO
celeste,
I believe I got it off of the dark ufo site.
I thought that line probably wasn’t a clue..but it was interesting:
JACK It’s not a very strong drink. So she slips a couple MINI-bottles of VODKA from her cart to Jack. FLIGHT attendant #1 (quiet, playful) Shh. JACK (leans in, sotto, conspiratorial) This of course breaks some critical FAA regulations — FLIGHT attendant #1 I saw you when you got on. Giving your first class ticket to that older lady. JACK Oh, I wasn’t being sweet. She guilted me into it. She’s like six-hundred years old and says she’s never flown before. (gimme a break) Come on.
Oh, thanks groovelady. That’s interesting. I don’t remember that from the pilot, but I’ll check my dvd’s first chance I get.
