Like a leaf sitting in a pool of water, the island is never in the same spot for too long, it’s drifting in the time , being moved slightly from side to side, but staying in the same general vicinity. It isn’t until someone of something gives it a push that it significantly moves.

This is why the island is half hour behind in one instance, an hour ahead in another. This is why it’s inexplicably day time when the plane crashes, and so on. The island has no anchor, nothing keeping it steady.

    Simple… but a good thought

It sounds good but I am still of the opinion that the island is not always moving and remains fixed and only moves through time.
