First post… take it easy on me

As the Lost writers are masters of the bait and switch, I feel that most of us assume that Abbadon is bad and working for Widmore and Alpert is working for Jacob to preserve the island. I will present some evidence for each that this is the case. Despite this evidence I do not think this is the case.

Some evidence Alpert is good: 1. Alpert is white (light vs dark theme) 2. Alpert appears compassionate (to Locke in season 3 by giving him Sawyers file) 3. His name is actually based on a real life professor who was given a hindu name “Ram Dass” which means servant of God

Some evidence that Abbadon is bad: 1. The name Abbadon means a biblical demon known as the destroyer 2. Abbadon is black (light vs dark theme) 3. As an orderly he accosts Locke in a fashion very similar to Satan by offering the gift of walking (it was very Indirect but I maintain telling him to go on the walkabout set things in motion for the gift) and then telling him he will owe him later… ie selling his soul 4. Abbadon is seen with Naomi planning the trip to the island

This is all compelling evidence, however I feel it is just a setup

I have read several theories which link the two characters to the Black Rock slave ship. I feel that Alpert could have been the captain or a crew member and Abbadon was a slave on the ship. I think that Abbadon is working for Widmore, but not to help Widmore. I think it is his goal to destroy the island and Alpert due to a vendetta from the past, however I feel his cause is the good one. I feel that it is a good vs evil or light vs dark plot but the roles are reversed. What Abbadon’s cause is I cant even begin to speculate. There just has not been enough characterization of these two. Given that the Lost writers love blowing our minds with the unexpected (ie Aaron, aand the flash forwards at the end of season 3) I think they have something along these lines planned for these two important yet underdeveloped characters.

Lemme know what you think

a little ps… i also was thinking about how character perceptions usually end up dramatically altered. Take Ben for example: He goes from supposed underling, to leader of others, to a heinous villain, to the good guy. Thats kind of what I see in these two characters

I never thought that Abbadon could have been on the black rock which is something to ponder, also i did know where his name came from. right now i am working on a crazy theory that widmore was the black rock captain.

Great first post man. That would be a great way to go for the show. +1

Your theory proves the exact opposite of what you planned to propose.

Granted you said that you would provide evidence to back up what the show has already portrayed, but you provide absolutely no evidence for the contrary point (the one your theory is “about”) besides the loose speculation of the contrary.

I’m sorry, but I don’t see any theory here, just random guessing based solely on the fact that the writers like to blow our minds

What a wonderful first theory. I love the way you think. +1

I only hope my first theory will be half as good.

eko_theman… i agree that I provide very little evidence and mere speculation about what I think will happen. However isnt the ENTIRE premise of this site rooted in speculation?

When it’s simply speculation, I would put a (Not a Theory) flag in the title. The point of a “theory” is to provide evidence to support. A theory is something that you can argue, but cannot fully prove. Any argument needs evidence, and as such, I would not consider this a theory at all.

I admit there’s nothing wrong with posting speculation, but I would not call this in particular a theory.

I also want to say that I’m not trying ot be confrontational, I just didn’t understand what all the hype was about as many were saying “Great Theory” and I just didn’t see what the theory was.
