Basically at the moment we aren’t sure who put the fake wreckage of oceanic 815 under the sea, either ben or widmore we are led to believe, but thats irrelevant. I assume we can take it at face value from, Confirmed Dead, that the wreckage was discovered by someone and it was then reported to be in the Sunda Trench or whatever.
The place it was discovered, which we assume is certain, is where the Oceanic 6’s story to the press places the plane crash. So for whatever reason they are agreeing to lie, it is in collaboration with whoever planted the fake wreckage.

Okay….I have a question & please correct me if I’m wrong. Whomever reported the story of the found Oceanic 6, DID INDEED report that ALL the bodies were found. If I remember correctly, when that one chick (I forget her name) parachutted down to the island (And there were other instances as well) that she had told them that again, ALL of the bodies of Oceanic 6 were found at the bottom of the ocean. If that’s the case…then how does one explain the Oceanic 6 - ALIVE?!?!?! After all….all the bodies were found, right? Is this a slip up in the writing or will it be explained?
The Oceanic lie is that the plane crashed in the general area of the Lesser Sunda islands where the fake wreckage was planted and that 8 managed to float away and 2 died later on. I think that Ben is the person who planted the fake wreckage and instructed the Oceanic 6 as to what the story will be. If remember correctly, the media reported that all the bodies were at the bottom of the ocean and were not retrieveable for identification so they couldn’t really claim to know all the bodies were found in the wreckage if nothing was retrieved.
