Why the hell did three redshirts get a seat on the first ride back to the freighter?

— Irocz28

For those of you who don’t know, the term “redshirts” means “extras”. And you might have been wondering the same thing I was when Daniel left the beach in the Zodiac raft: Why the hell did three redshirts get a seat on the first ride back to the freighter? Shouldn’t it have been someone more…. Important???

The first trip from the beach had Sun, Jin, three redshirts, and Daniel. We know who the Oceanic 6 are, and they certainly aren’t any of the extras. So what is going to happen with these three people?

Well, I don’t know how it is going to happen, but I think these three redshirts are the individuals Jack refers to when he says that 8 people survived the initial plane crash.

Remember, Aaron wasn’t born yet, so when they say that 8 survived the crash, they mean Jack, Sayid, Hurley, Sun, Kate, and three more people, hence the three redshirts.

Who else could they be referring to? Nobody comes to my mind. Jin isn’t one. Claire isn’t one. These people obviously had to be people that could not have been covered up by the elaborate lie. And the fact that these three redshirts are currently off the island, that makes them the prime candidates.

I had noticed that too and your comment made me think even more about it.

Okay, so their story is that 8 survived the crash but 2 later died giving us the Oceanic 6. I am of the opinion that if they are counting Aaron as one of the Oceanic 6, then they would have to count him as one of the 8 survivors of the crash. If they don’t include Aaron in the crash survivor count when they tell their story that 8 survived the crash but 2 later died, then there would be one person unaccounted for.

YinGirl is correct, and this is yet another discrepancy in the “cover story.”

As far as the redshirts, you may be right. What do you think happens with the “explosives.” Based on the fact that both Sun and Aaron are rescued, it doesn’t seem logical that Keamy detonates the explosives with the present group on board.

Having said that, I don’t know why, but I don’t think the O6 are rescued from the Kahana. Somehow, the survivors are removed from the Kahana and rescued from a different location, possibly by Penny and her team.

I actually had the same exact thoughts. That is until I clicked on DarkUfo today.

There is a Podcast on Darks homepage (I try to stay away from his spoiler page) claiming that there were a few deleted scenes of the press conference. One of those deleted scenes is Jack naming the identities of the other 3 survivors.

I won’t list the names here because some may consider it a spoiler. But IMO it is a rather interesting choice of names.

Wonder why it was deleted? Maybe they did decide to go the way of the redshirts?

    +1

Maybe the 2 who made it to the island and died are Locke and another (possibly Sawyer, as he seemed irritated with Jack’s desire to get off the island) who stayed behind but to protect them the Oceanic 6 have agreed to say they are definitely dead
