More of a question than a theory this one guys. …
We all know that to get to and from the island a special set of co-ordinates has to be taken… namely a bearing of 305. The freighties need Frank Lapidis to fly them to and from the island and we know how much of a rough ride he had when he was takin Sayid and Des to the freighter. Faraday told him he had to follow those exact bearings. Also Ben tells Michael in Live together Die Alone that he must follow the bearing of 325 to make sure he finds safety.
So cut forward to the last episode… Keamy (the charmer he is) slits the Docs throat because Lapidis is refusing to fly him back to the Island. The Doc then goes overboard into the ocean. How then does his body appear on the beach in the previous episode ?(obviously the time delay is the reason why his body turned up before he was in fact murdered).
It would take a massive coincidence for his lifeless body to float along miles across the ocean following a bearing of 305…. It has me puzzled….Any ideas……

Given the time delay evidenced by Regina and Faraday’s rocket experience, the doctor’s body should be washing up on shore after the show ends. There’s a problem with the barrier like you’re pointing out, but there also seems to be a consistency problem. I must be wrong, but I don’t see how yet.
Rocket is launched from freighter, Rocket should be at Island, Rocket shows up late.
So should be: Doctor is dispensed from freighter, Doctor washes really, really late.
Instead: Doctor is thrown into ocean, Doctor should not be at Island, Doctor shows up early.
sorry, meant “rocket experiment.” der
Think of the island as a huge room inside a house. There are many doors to this island but some of the door for the bearing of 305 is a safe one. Maybe the door (bearing that regina sent the rocket on was one that leads to the island in the futre and the one that the doc went through was one that leads to the island in the past.
Sorry that was a bit wordy.
there is one mistake in this whole bearings thing tho
micheal sawyer and jin on the raft
micheal and sawyer float for about a day and end up on the island with no problem jin somehow got back to the island my geuss is he swam there so how did they both manage to get the same bearing or “safe bearing”
the writers have jumped the shark with the bit about the doc getting to the island. I bet they never go back and explain it. I mean what could they possibly say that would make us go, “Oh, OK, that makes sense now.” They screwed up with this one.
I believe that the bearing of 305 is the one that allows you to get to the island with no time shift. So the dead doc’s body probably didn’t follow that bearing and ended up on the shore in the past. The rocket followed another bearing as well (which wasn’t the same as the doc’s) and got to the island in the future. Bearing 325 is either another “safe” route or Ben just lied and had Michael and Walt follow the wrong bearing so that they ended up in some different time (maybe because he was already planning on using Michael as his spy). PS. In this article the producers say it’s actually the morse code signal that got “time distorted” so I’m thinking maybe it’s not the doc’s body who travelled in time but just the message they sent. http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/science_news/4260693.html
Smokey — the island is surrounded by some sort of barrier. That’s why Desmond couldn’t sail out of it. The Sawyer/Jin/Michael raft never got past the barrier.
Cenoura — there has been some physical distortion. The doc and helicopter left the freighter at roughly the same time, but the doc beat the helicopter to the island by at least a day.
Lockeko — it looks like the writers jumped the shark by not keeping things consistent (Regina rocket arrives late; doc arrives early) ; I’ve got faith in the writers though; it’s going to get fixed somehow…
Holystickman — nice analogy; I think it might be the same door though — it just matters how you get through it. (Bearings may have to do with what time you’re knocking.)
