I hereby amend my previous theory of the O-6 flying off the island on the helicopter during an attack on the beach camp.
With info from the latest episode I now believe that they leave by the Zodiac.
It has been pointed out that a Zodiac is a rather small craft to be carrying so many people, especially when you throw someone as big as Hurley into the mix.
But who says they all have to be on the one little boat? The Zodiac doesn’t have to carry all six of them…it can tow them. A Zodiac is more than capable of towing some kind of raft behind it so they put a few on the boat, a few on the raft because they want to carry as many people from the island as possible per trip.
After the island moves, they are picked up at sea not by “not Penny’s boat” but by Penny’s boat.
I’m still not certain as to how Hurley winds up with the escaping survivors but he does so it really doesn’t matter in this scenario.

I wondered that too Starbuck. But I think Sayid promises he will return with the zodiac to pick up more

Sawyer stays, sacrifices himself maybe and hopes for a 2nd boat. Or maybe as he said before ‘I ain’t got something to go back to’
Ben isn’t going off the island Locke doesn’t want to. Because he has to move the island ofcourse and be a leader to the others. Julliet doesn’t go because she can’t. She can’t be identified as a member of o6
Can go on a while but I just hope we aint assuming too much. Hope that sayid makes it too the island.
i think sayid somehow gets knocked out and hurley is the only other person who knows how to work the boat …. considering the rest is chicks and injured jack…. its possible
