there is no Jacob….

Watching Locke’s vision of Horace Goodspeed, and the Cabin visit to Christian and Claire, I am convinced that Jacob is only Jacob to Ben. Jacob to Ben is the same thing as Christian to Locke, or the Horse to Kate, etc… point is, Jacob is exactly who the person seing him/variation of him needs to see to believe in the island.
What made me think of this is the name, Jacob. Lost writers are definitely keen on using names to portray a character better. Mittelos Boiscience comes to mind (lost time) so in that, I thought of this.. jacob– j = Just A = A C = Collection O = Of B = Bodies
Tear me apart if you like, but hey, makes sense to me.

it does make sense, which is why some ghosts are ghosts and others are JACOB - apparitions that can touch etc. I guess the question is, who is Ben’s JACOB? his mother maybe?
+1 Excellent!! and this would explain why we see so many dead people on the island, and possibly off if you include Hurly seeing Charlie, maybe that is how Hurley sees Jacob and why he was so freaked out at the mini-mart.
I like the idea of everyone having their own personal jacob (note lowercase), but the “just a collection of bodies” word play thing is a little weird. Don’t know about that…but +1 to the other part.
It’s a good thought, except that Locke hasn’t met Christian before seeing him in the cabin. Locke asks who he is… if he is Jacob. He says “No, but I can speak on his behalf. I’m Christian.” So if your theory were accurate “JACOB” would appear as someone Locke could already relate to and know. Since he has never met Christian, that ian’t quite it. Great thinking on the anagram, though. Very creative.
Just Another Crazy Old Bastard has always been my personal favorite.

How about John And Crew Over Ben
“jacob– j = Just A = A C = Collection O = Of B = Bodies” Truly like what you said, it wouldn’t have occured to me in a million years. Still….all these bodies appearing to people, saying things, sometimes contradictory, sometimes confusing………I need Jacob to be a “defined” being, if he’s the leader of the Others, there must be something more to it than just the collection of bodies. After so many episodes and so many elements introduced, it’s finally striking me, maybe I won’t get all the answers I want. +1 for bringing a whole new twist to the Jacob topic.
perhaps though its worth considering John hearing ‘help me’ in The Man Behind The Curtain when he first entered the cabin, didn’t sound much like Christian to me and also what do we think about the various shots of eyes in the cabin and at the window?
reminds me of the Red Dwarf episode ‘Camille’ where a pleasure G.E.L.F (genetically engineered life form) appears differently to each observer, they all see the object of their own desire. So I would see myself.
It would definitely be Kate for me if that was the case.

Good thought but how does seeing Jacob as Christian Shepard help Locke believe in anything?
I don’t buy it.
But how come Hurley saw Christian? And Locke didn’t see Christian the very first time.
Nice theory. I agree with most of it- the island manifests itself as whomever it needs to be to each specific character. I don’t know if jacob is really a collection of dead bodies though, because the people that are “dead” on the island might be alive in another place. Maybe Christian Shepard will show up in one of Locke’s flashbacks/flashforewords soon enough! +1
I still believe jacob may be Locke himself from the future, so he had Christian speak on his behalf because if he spoke to Locke personally, the poor guy would be shocked by seing himself
