LOST-Theories.com

I have done my best in reading all theories and observations that have been posted since last night’s Cabin Fever. My goal with this post is to get everything out in the open in order to stop the repeat observations. I want this to be really objective and right to the point.

I’m going to start this off with basic observations that are more interesting than they are informational.

1.) Geronimo Jackson poster in Locke’s locker (Read about Geronimo Jackson on Lostpedia if unfamiliar, http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Geronimo_Jackson)

2.) Picture of Sir Richard Burton above it (Read about Burton on Wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SirRichardBurton)

poster

3.) Keamy’s device is a Korg digital metronome: Keamy

4.) The Secondary Protocol has the new Dharma Logo on it. (What many feel is the Orchid Logo) Dharma

5.) Possible confirmation that Locke is supposed to play the “game”: poster The poster reads: Get Back in the Game

(Please visit http://losteastereggs.blogspot.com/ for more information. This website deserves all of the credit for their wonderful screencaps.)

Next I wish to address the main topics of discussion that have sparked from Cabin Fever.

1.) Richard Alpert. Overall I think people are split between two possibilities for Mr. Alpert. Either:

a.) He is time traveling to the past (to alter the future?)

b.) He is never aging and “omnipresent.”

Both would be valid explanations for his seemingly never-aging qualities. The problem with the first one is he would have to be present and aging somewhere. (Or sometime?) The problem with the second point is there had to be a point where he stopped aging. (He some how had to get to the age he is now.)

2.) John Locke and the Dalai Lama test. It has been touched upon in many recent posts that the “object identification” test is very similar to the way they try and find the next Dalai Lama. Personally, I feel LOST has used this to further the idea that John was chosen for his role. It is also important to note that while Richard Alpert (after administering this test) storms out of John’s home, he says to John’s foster mother, “I’m afraid John isn’t quite ready for our school.” It is all a matter of timing.

3.) Richard Alpert verses Matthew Abaddon. Now. If you guys don’t remember any of this post I at least would like you to think about this. This is kind of difficult for me to explain, but I definitely would appreciate others’ input on what I am about to retaliate. From what I have read of recent posts and theories, many feel that Matthew and Richard are both trying to get their hands on Locke.

Consider this. Richard’s way verses Matthew’s way. Richard tries to get Locke to attend the Mittelos Science Camp. We remember this from Juliet’s experience. Hypothetically, if teenage Locke had decided to go, he would soon find himself drugged up on a submarine heading towards the island. Abaddon appears to Locke after he is crippled. (And from what we know, Alpert has seemingly given up? He is not present in Locke’s adulthood from what we know) Abaddon doesn’t try to get Locke to the island by any practical means. He plants the idea of the Walkabout in John’s head.

So if Abaddon knows that flying to Australia and then boarding a plane back to L.A. would get Locke to the island, who has more power? The man who wants to get Locke to the island by a fake science camp and a submarine? Or the man who wants to get Locke to the island by a humanly unpredictable plane crash?

Exactly.

The only question, which one is the good guy?

Lastly, I would like to point out basic, obvious things that don’t really have answers yet:

1.) Ben used to have Locke like dreams, too.

2.) Young John drew smoke monster.

3.) New bearing of 305. (edit // correction: not a new bearing, just a different bearing than Ben’s. Thank you, seattle_swede)

3.) The similarities between Locke and Ben.

4.) lostinnyc pointed out the fact that there must be a prophecy somewhere. How else would Alpert be basing his pursuit of John? My apologies for showing my nerdy-ness but this is quite the reflection of Harry Potter. Both Neville and Harry fit the qualifications for the “Chosen One” that the prophecy foretold much in the same way Locke and Ben seem to fit the role. (Mothers named Emily, born premature, etc)

This would be a great place to give links to your relating theories in the comments. (In hopes of people reading them before they get drowned in the incoming posts.)

Also, I have one last request, if we could all try our very best not to post repeat theories, that would really improve the efficiency of this site. I know, I know, many of you are probably thinking “Wow, everything you just posted has already been said” but my goal with this was to, like I said, get everything out in the open in order to stop the repeat observations/theories.

Remember, if you want people to read/enjoy your theories, you have to do you part in reading everyone else’s. I have really enjoyed the majority of the stuff people have been bringing to the surface. It is definitely interesting to view things from different perspectives. Keep it up everyone!!

LaMer, I commend you for trying to do this condensing of posts ! I agree that it makes things a lot simpler, than trying to read so many . I wish I could read everything, but it is hard to do.The Bad Gateway, makes it that much more difficult. We can hope ! Nice post.+1

Boooo, bad gateway… how I hate you so…

Great pics! I didn’t notice Geronimo Jackson in the locker… nice… I wonder what’s up with the metronome… maybe it’s related to the heart rate monitor he’s wearing…

I just wanted to clarify that 305 is not a new bearing. This is the bearing Daniel Faraday told Frank to use. Daniel has a different bearing than Ben does and we are still not sure why there is a difference. +1 for an overall good epsidoe wrap-up.

I have one of those metronomes!

  7. LaMer May 9, 2008 4:25 p.m. Comment: 7

I would love to, except I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I can promise a recap after each episode though.

I’m considering making a post laying out everyones theories about Richard Alpert maybe sometime this week. =) Thanks for the feedback guys, it’s a good confidence booster.

Oh, and seattle_swede, I updated the post. Thanks for the correction!!

maybe the metronome is a constant

    what is the meteranome for?

I think the fact that they used a metronome is just because it’s a prop, no musical reference. TPTB just needed some device that could be, oh say, a heart monitor that is attached to a bomb or something…

  14. Lostian May 9, 2008 5:17 p.m. Comment: 14

+1 Nice post, but why is everyoneso sure that that device is a metronome?

  15. Lostian May 9, 2008 5:21 p.m. Comment: 15

I thought that it looked like a jury-rigged digital video camera to show Widmore evidence that Keamy murdered the Captain after he interfered with his mission.

  16. AppleofmyEye May 9, 2008 5:28 p.m. Comment: 16

    Great pics!

A third possibility re: Alpert’s agelessness is that he is not a “he” but a “what.” He/it is being made manifest.

I am extremely interested in Alpert vs. Abaddon. I’m glad you raised it.

Remember: Abaddon recruited the freighter people who have said that are looking for Benjamin Linus — they haven’t shown an interest in Locke.

Another point bouncing in my head: Alpert has been shown to have knowledge and access to the island. We haven’t seen this with Abaddon so far, have we? He seems a little more in the dark when it comes to the island.

One prophecy that was floated by Ben and Alpert is that their “leader” would kill his father. It has bothered me that Sawyer killed Locke’s father. I suppose that Locke had something to do with it by sicking (sp?) Sawyer on Cooper. (And of course, the actual paternity of Locke’s father has now been called into question.)

Kate killed her father — kind of. Not her biological father. Jack killed his father — kind of — showing up at the AA meeting and sending him into a lethal alcohol binge. Sawyer’s out. Ben killed his father, if his father was indeed Roger Workman.

Anyway, we know there’s a prophecy and there could be more to it or Others :)

    Wow indeed!!

The has been one of the best posts in a long time!!!

I like it so much because of the Prophecy idea. Indeed, it must be written?

    Team Abbandon/Widmore vs. Alpert/Linus

Oh yeah and Mr. Eko told Locke about the 305 bearing Look North JOhn: 305 in The Cost of Living (or maybe it was Further Instructions, either way in one of those episodes Locke reads Mr. Eko’s stick) which is what Faraday later confirms.

  18. LaMer May 9, 2008 5:43 p.m. Comment: 18

AppleofmyEye, great thoughts. Especially the “killing father” aspect. That could definitely be part of this “prophecy.” It seems to fit. It would go hand in hand with Ben’s comment when they were at the DI pit…

BEN: I didn’t kill them. HURLEY: Well, if the Others didn’t wipe out the DHARMA Initiative— BEN: They did wipe them out, Hugo, but it wasn’t my decision. HURLEY: Then whose was it? BEN: Their leader’s.

I think the “THEIR” leader’s is important. He didn’t say “OUR” leader’s.

Good points about Abaddon being in the dark… He seems eager for any information in the flashforwards, especially in the Mental Institute.

It is all stuff to ponder. Thanks for the positive feedback everyone!

    LaMer. Great post as always.

Since there is no moderator on this site, and since I don’t assume there will be any changes to the site,

MAYBE WE SHOULD USE THE obsolete section AS A duplicate THEORY section?

  20. LaMer May 9, 2008 7:17 p.m. Comment: 20

IslandBound, that’s a possibility. If everyone agrees on it, it could be an greatidea. I just don’t want to be the evil one going around marking everyone’s theories as repeats. =) The other problem is someone might come to this site and even though they might read what we know is a repeat, it might be the first time they are reading it. So repeat is kind of relative.

What I tried to do was during Cabin Fever was playing last night, make one post for simply “CABIN FEVER observations” where people could comment short little observations in hopes of minimizing repeats… It kind of worked… but obviously not everyone read/saw it. I will do it again next Thursday and hopefully more people will catch on.

It would really help if nobody posted any new theories during the show airing or immediately after. That way, the Observations post would stay at the top.

I definitely am not trying to be controlling, I just really love LOST and I want everyone to get the best experience while theorizing. =)

Since there are only 2 more episodes left, I suppose it’s not that big of a deal. The one-timers will all disappear and the serious LOST theorizers will remain throughout the summer popping in to put pieces together.

Hopefully we can come up with a better plan for next season. =)

Anyways, thanks everyone. Maybe try to look for my posts next Thursday in hopes of minimizing repeats!

    Good job LaMer.

I had a similar observation last week about clogging up of the site right after a new episode aires.

Perhaps we could combine my posting with yours and get a central posting for all the little observations that pop up after each new episode. Here is a link:

    MyStarbuckHatesLost:

Fantastic, I just read your post and that sounds exactly like what we should be accomplishing. So, if you wanted to post a “All New Users–-” post sometime before the next episode airs, that maybe could help. And then right when the next episode starts I will post an observations post. I think maybe the title will be more effective as “post all 4x12 observations here” instead of just “4x12 observations” like i did last week. If you have any other ideas or if there is anything you would like to do specifically, I am very open!

Thanks for the great feedback everyone!

No one has mentioned that Ben and Locke have the same mother (Emily who later becomes Emily Linus) This makes Ben and John brothers by different fathers.
