Richard is obviously time jumping. Locke’s mother’s flashback definitely shows him in the 1940’s or 50’s.

His name is also different. Richard Alpert on the Island… Richard Shun on the Island… but that could just be a cover-up.

Did Locke Create the Smoke Monster? ie. the picture on his wall

I believe that this is proof that The Others have harnessed time travel in order to go to literally the first moment of the losties lives, and ensure that THEY get on the Island. Time Travel is now imminent. Don’t Deny It.

Word to yo mother.

This isn’t that serious of a thread, but plz post any quick, short theories below about RIchard’s Appearance in the Hospital.

Yes, little John drew that picture. He also seemed to be lying about which objects were his…maybe.

yea but its trippy… What if Richard isn’t so much in Locke’s past…. What if he is NOW….FROM THE TEMPLE (with the Others)… traveling to Locke’s past, to better his outcome, and thus the Island’s outcome?

I don’t know…I need more time to mull the episode over. It was a creepy one. Especially the scene in the cabin…I get such a creepy/evil vibe coming from that place, whether its Jacob, Christian or Claire in it. What was the deal with that? Why was Claire so laid back and mellow, and yes, I’ll say it again…creepy. I know they are all about saving the island (move it!!!), but something just doesn’t feel right.

I’m not sure I’m convinced of the time jumping. What if he’s just really that old and doesn’t age. I’m not sure how you’re rulling that out. It’s not any more inconceivable. I do like the idea that he’s currently in the temple doing it, but in either case, how is john supposed to recognize those objects, adn what were they?

its definately not time travel that allowed richard alpert to be there. its the fact that Richard is either immortal, or doesnt age at the same pace as those who live off the island. Richard Alpert is the same age at 5 different times:

In chronological order… Locke’s birth, Locke as a child, during Ben’s childhood, during the purge, and at our current timeline. Keep in mind when he saw ben as a child, richard had long hair, if it was time travel, why the long hair. I think this proves that Richard is immortal or simply doesnt age, probably due to the island’s powers.

When 900 years you reach, look this good you will not.

I think Richard Alpert is going to contradict this statement.

    Richard REALLY looks good…!!!! 40´s, 50´s 80´s 90´s or 00´s he is yummy..! LOL… :-p

lol roju. Shasty - i am not a long-time fan of time travel but it is becoming more and more evident.

Richard just being old and not aging does not give us anything else besides the fact that he is old. Why would he be at Locke’s birth? Why on earth… would a random a$$ special ed school administrator show up at a newly born baby’s conception? He had to have had some background knowledge on Locke.

He either time traveled or got orders from someone who knew the future

Maybe he is just really old… and has been on the island for centuries…

Maybe Jacob told him to go find Johnathan Locke at this date at this time. But that is just as unbelievable as time travel. I do not understand why you rule this out with such inconceivable effortlessness. pc

I’m going with time travel as well. So far Ben and Desmond have traveled through time. I believe Christain and Claire have as well which explains her creepy behavior which someone pointed out earlier. And she’s with her father that she hates but all of a sudden their hanging out?

How did Emily’s mother know Richard? Maybe she didn’t but she definately gave that impression when she saw him at the window in the hospital. Maybe Richard is Locke’s real father. LOL. Who knows.

The secret to his eternally, youthful looks is in the application of eyeliner.

I tend to think he just isn’t aging. He isn’t looking any older but he is changing with the times… Plus the time travel thing in this case makes it sound like they can just travel to any time and I don’t think they can.

    lmao AC.

I agree with you Highbrow. I thought that their time travel was very limited as well, but its hard to back up now. I find the idea of him never aging but managing to show up in these random but important places/events is just as hard to believe as free-flowing time travel.

I’m just speculating, but if Alpert is time jumping, then why is he going back in time with questions and not answers? He seems to be doing the best with the info he has at the time.

Good line of thought Dazed, and I love to hear how I’m missing something…
