I was thinking like desmond is micheal faradays constant,what if the oceanic 6 had to get off the island so that they could be the other suvivors constant,then arron could be clairs constant so she stays alive i might be wrong but just an idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi the idea of a constant was someone that you could contact so that you could cope with the consciousness time travelling. If The Oceanic Six are off the island then this would prevent them from efficient constants as they would be uncontactable.
ok winnter what if the oceanic 6 are the contactees, and the suvivors on the island are the ones who need the constants ,ie penny off the island and desmond on the island.
The constant has be in both times that the person is bouncing between. Des was bouncing between 1996 and 2004 so he needed someone in both times. We have no way of knowing what year each lostie is going to bounce between. Since nobody in the O6 knew any of the other losties (even Jack and Claire) before the flight, they wouldn’t work if the lostie is (most likely) bouncing back several years like Des did.
Remember that Penny was only going to work as Desmond’s constant if she kept the same phone number for 8 years and was at home to answer the phone. It was lucky for Desmond that a) Sayid got a phone working and b) Penny had the same phone number and answered Desmond’s phone call.
It seems that a constant is one that should be easily available . Or one that you can book a future appointment with, like Des had already told Penny when he would need to contact her. So again I think the Oceanic 6 are not very good candidates for being the constants of those left on the island.
