In “Every Man for Himself” Sawyer learns that Cassidy is pregnant with his child. Although he denies it…deep down he probably knows it’s his. If we remember the scene in prison Cassidy asks Sawyer for one favor….to write a letter to Clementine.
I don’t think I need to go into to much more detail as my thought is pretty straightforward. Sawyer finally writes that letter to Clementine and gives it to Kate to bring back home and deliver it. What it says….well that’s for another theory.

I figured too that what she was doing for sawyer had something to do with clementine…but I’m trying to find a way to make sense of the phone call….

It may have been Cassidy on the phone becasue after all….Kate did become pals with her after she helped Kate talk to her mom.
I thought this too… she’s doing something with Sawyers baby and baby-momma. Kate and Clementine already know each other… they helped each other out before…
I’m not sure about what’s in the letter, but the phone call could easily have been made to Clementine’s mother. Remember Kate met her, and upon learning she was with Sawyer they could easily have become pseudo friends, which is why they were talking a lot on the phone.

Agreed that it probably could have something to do with Sawyers child…but why would Kate feel the need to keep that from Jack? Why not just say she has become friends with a friend of Sawyer who happens to be the mother of his child. Jack is a little fragile it seems at this point, but considering it is obvious he is fearing the worst…….the story must be much deeper IMO for her to hide it.
Clementine definitely crossed my mind also. Kate’s exact words (on the phone) were “Jack’s never home before 8:00 anyway. I could stay for at least an hour.” So she is definitely doing more than just delivering something.
Also, I was bothered by how dressed up she was coming home at the end of the episode. Anyone else find that strange?
The last thing that seemed odd is her reasoning for being untruthful. When Jack asks why she didn’t tell him Kate replies, “He [Sawyer] wouldn’t want me to.”

Good thing I went to read other theories before I went all willy nilly on mine. Apparently we are all on the same wavelength on this one. Kate has probably been asked by Sawyer to make sure Clementine is also taken care of financially. +1 for being the first to get this posted.
Or maybe Sawyer gave her a list and she’s killing people for him… like Sayid is doing for Ben…
thanks for posting that comment Lost_Dbutz….I didn’t even think of the money aspect. I’m not 100% sure about that considering he told the authorities to put his commission from the Munson con in Clementine’s name so that she would never know it was from him. Another fact that shows he knows hes the father. Does anyone remember what happened to the 600 grand he took from cassidy? slipping my mind.
I am going to post a theory as to why I think Kate is acting wierd to Jack in relation to this.

I think Kate could’ve been straight forward with Jack if that were the case.
i think it definatley is to do with cassidy and clemintine. i think we all agree on that. but maybe whatever it is, is much deeper than what we think. otherwise why keep it from jack? i am glad that she is honoring her promise to sawyer and keeping a secret.
this ep is probably in 2006, so why is she NOW doing this favor for sawyer? if he asked her before she left the island, wouldnt she have done it years ago? this leads me to think that she has met up with sawyer again and thats when he asked her. :)
Kate and Jack operate at the highest levels of relationship disfunction and it is agonizing to watch.

that does make sense and you’re probably right but when cassidy come to the prison she has already had clementine she isnt pregnant
