This theory is based on the fact that Claire doesn’t know that she is dead. Exactly like in the movie “The sixth sense” where the characher of Bruce Willis was dead but we all figure that out at the end.

— Marius

First of all i’m sorry but my english maybe it’s not that good. Here’s the theory Preparing the theory. We all saw the episode in which Claire’s house exploded. The frighter people make sure that will happen. After that a very brave Sawyer goes and picks up Claire from the remainings of her house. She seemed fine, except for a head wound and later she said that she’s got a stomach injury too . Of course very superficial both of them, because she got to live… When Saywer picked up Claire she said “Charlie” and then she fainted. We could all presume that she had mistaken Sawyer for Charlie, because both of them have blonde hair, but I will later tell my theory about that moment.

After the Locke’s camp escapes from the frighter people siege they split. Sawyer, Claire, Aaron and Miles decided to go back to the beach. On the way to the beach Miles seemed very interested in Claire person, and Sawyer managed to shut him up, but putting a restraining order on him. At night Claire wakes up and she doesn’t find Aaron next to her, she looks up and sees Christian Shephard, her father.

The theory : My conclusion is that maybe Claire is dead ! Ya DEAD. We know that the LOST island is a very special island. We saw in the thirtheen mobisode , how Christian Shephard interacted with Vincent, and now in the episode 4.10 he can hold baby Aaron in his arms. Before the plane crash Christian was dead, but the island brought back something. I am not saying that CS is alive, contrarily..he’s dead but he can somehow interact with other people on the island. Back to Claire. After her house exploded, Sawyer brings her back to Ben’s house and she seemed fine. A little dizzy, but we all thought that she’s dead after the explosion so escaping with superficial injuries is very strange. In fact Claire is dead from the moment her house exploded, but she doesn’t realize it yet. And of course because she can interact normal with the others , they didn’t realise it either . I would say that she is a physical form of Claire , that could interact normal with Aaron and Sawyer. Her body isn’t possessed by another spirit or by the Black smoke she is just in another physical state just like Christian Shephard or like Charlie when he goes to visit Hurley. All of you out there who think that this theory is hooey , don’t try to find a rationale answer for anything that happens in LOST, because we are past that. Black smoke ? Time travel ? Christian Shephard holding Aaron, and many more.. Back to the theory. I have even a couple of arguments to support my theory. - What chances does a person have after a house explodes and he is inside ? Very few chances I think. - I’ve heard that there was filmed a scene that didn’t make it trough the cut so we never saw it in the “The shape of things to come”. The scene takes place on the remainings of Claire’s house, when Sawyer grabed her. We saw that she called him Charlie, but is seems that scene had a few more lines in it. Claire keeps talking like she’s having some weird visions. Maybe Charlie, Christian ? I think that Charlie was there in a form or another. He is the only person that had a strong conection with Claire on the island and died on the island. So it feels naturat that Charlie will come and try to talk to her . Maybe guide her. - Let’s go back to Miles. We know that he has some sort of special “talking to dead people” power. In Ben’s house while he was “calling” the Smoke Monster from his little hidden room, Claire wakes up and comes to the living room. There Sawyer asks her if she is allright. Claire said “I’m fine . I will live” , and Miles very quick said “I will not be sure about that if I were you.” . Maybe he is the only one who realised that Claire is dead, or maybe he is just getting weird signals from her. - Later on in the jungle (episode 4.10), Sawyer asked Claire again if is she’s ok. Claire answered that she feels a lot better and the visions stopped. What she was seeing ? Again , I think that she saw either Charlie or Christian , or maybe both. - In that night when Christian came to her, maybe he was there for finally guide her to the “dead and still living people on the island”. Maybe that’s why she left Aaron behind, he is still alive.

This really does explain Miles interest in Clair quite well. +1

I was about to post this exact theory when I found you beat me to it. My question is what is the island’s purpose in letting her stick around in her Charlie-like state? All she has really done since the explosion is carry Aaron and tag along with Miles/Locke.

  3. abstractarzt May 2, 2008 9:45 p.m. Comment: 3

so dead claire gave birth to Aaron? sorry brotha

  4. RealSayyid May 2, 2008 9:52 p.m. Comment: 4

    Marius, very good theory +1

@ abstractarzt. Do not play dummy. You know he is talking about recent explosion. Not funny, brotha.

  5. abstractarzt May 2, 2008 10:12 p.m. Comment: 5

so why aren’t all the other people that are dead up and walking around?

  6. chopthedeparted May 2, 2008 11:31 p.m. Comment: 6

they fully served their purpose, even if some may or may not have had a good one, besides being involved with on-island characters..off the island..to give it a twist…. so some of them dont need to come back and walk around anymore. ex. (eko: was ready to die after he spoke to yemi)

(shannon: basically useless and shot because AL is an idiot (a hot one at that))

(boone: helped john while he was in the hut medatating.)

    (AL: killed by Michael..pretty useless..,)

(Libby: michael saw her in the hospital, and she might be back for more)

  7. Marius May 3, 2008 6:40 a.m. Comment: 7

    @ abstractarzt :

I think we saw many dead people walking around: Christian, Horace (ep 4.11), Yemi. The interesting part is where they show up, and who can see them.

Claire doesn’t know that she is dead right now, so she is acting normal. But christian shephard came and probably guide her. He told everything. And now the both of them are heading to Jacob cabin.

I think that in the end of the series we will see many dead characters showing up, because the island is a place where the living and the dead people can live togeter in harmony. But it’s a long way until 2010

Well I would prefer to see a dead Claire Walking rather a dead Claire buried. If she is dead then they should bring back an also dead Charlie so they can continue their relationship.

    I like your theory. +1

I do think there is something fishy with Miles and Claire going on. Though everyone thought that “I wouldn’t be too sure about that” was just an offhand comment about the imminent attack, now there is a possibility of deeper meaning.

Perhaps Claire had the same experience with the exploding house as Desmond did with the failsafe key?

  13. neoplasm May 3, 2008 10:50 a.m. Comment: 13

    Possible.

  14. PortRoyalWenk May 3, 2008 11:30 a.m. Comment: 14

Very good insight. I also thought it was kinda odd how miles had such an interest in claire. I could totally see that happening. +1

  15. highbrow May 3, 2008 11:47 a.m. Comment: 15

Very possible. +1. You know what else? I think Jack died in the crash. Maybe Jack has been dead the whole time. That could be why he woke up away from the crash.

  16. highbrow May 3, 2008 12:21 p.m. Comment: 16

I also think Locke died in the crash. Ben will die at some point as well but he’ll be brought back (in the desert) to fulfill some new purpose for the island. Maybe he’s already died (Miles: “I know what you are”). They all have some things in common. They wake up in the same position (on their backs, arms at their sides) with some sort of lasceration (actually, I don’t remember if Claire had a cut or not…)… Locke across his eye, Jack on his back, Ben on his arm.

I wonder what kind of reaction Miles is going to have when he meets Jack…

  17. Marius May 3, 2008 12:33 p.m. Comment: 17

If Jack died in the crash how is he one of the Oceanic 6 ? My theory about Claire doesn’t says that Claire wakes up from the dead. quite the oposite… She, charlie, Christian they are all dead, but with the “help” of the island they can exist in a physical form. About Jack and the fact that he woke up in the jungle apart from the rest of the castaways a i have another short theory, but i don’t have enough information.

anyway…. Didn’t you saw a similarity beetwen Jack waking up and Ben wakeing up in Tunisia ? Both of them were on the ground. But of course if we are thinking about the orchid station then the question is how Jack ended there. It’s confusing. I am not sure about this like the Claire-dead theory. But i remember something the producers said early in season 2. They’ve said that many answers we can find in the Pilot episode. What that means ? I’ve watch 8-10 times the episode but i didn’t notice nothing about Jack.

  18. Sungodrod May 3, 2008 12:36 p.m. Comment: 18

excellent theory. Also didn’t the weeklong promo say that “the island would take one of the survivors for it’s own” or something like that. It didn’t say anyone was going to be killed or removed from the show but “the island would take them”

And as “silly” as this theory sounds it’s still more realistic than she survived that massive explosion without as much as even a minor burn. C’mon.

I like this one, maybe Rose is dead too… that´s why she isn´t sick anymore…!!!!! love this theory…

  20. highbrow May 3, 2008 1:03 p.m. Comment: 20

I thought about Rose as well.

As far as Jack being one of the Oceanic Six… There seems to be something wrong with him now that he’s back… like maybe he doesn’t belong and maybe his drive to get back to the island is the island calling him back because he’s dead and never should have left…

  21. abstractarzt May 3, 2008 10:26 p.m. Comment: 21

If you like this theory, you have to believe that jack could also be dead.

If the dead “don’t realize it yet” and can “interact normal with the others” or they still have a purpose or still have work to do, then the island let’s them take on “another physical state” and carry on as if they were still alive. Ok, if that’s true, than any or all of the characters could be dead (except paulo and nikki who are still alive and buried).

And we know that Michael is off the island and the island won’t let him die. So the island’s powers aren’t limited to the island, they extend out to the rest of the world. Charlie is dead but showed up alive at the hospital and comes back all the time and gives Hurly massages.

So why can’t Jack be dead?

Jack could definately be dead if this theory is true.

after thought: Of course if Jack is dead, he wouldn’t be one of the Oceanic 6 he would be one of the 2 dead ones, which means there’s still another O6 member out there we haven’t found out about yet. So… dust off all those O6 theories and bring em back out here.

  22. abstractarzt May 3, 2008 10:34 p.m. Comment: 22

    and another after thought

If the island let’s you carry on as if you are alive until you’ve completed what you need to complete, why would it bother to keep Michael alive? Let him kill himself, take on this different physical state and continue to do what the island wants him to do.

  23. drjack May 4, 2008 2:21 a.m. Comment: 23

This theory really got me thinking so it’s +1. That said I’m absolutely sure Jack isn’t dead, it wouldn’t make much sense because until now we’ve seen the losties seeing Chris, Charlie, Ana Lucia, Libby after their deaths…….but Jack being seen by all the doctors at St. Sebastian and the woman in the bridge that crashed just before he took the jump. Not to mention that all of the dead seem to be pretty peaceful, maybe even comfortable, while Jack is freaking out every moment we see him in TTLG. And Claire, after leaving her baby behind, she better be dead.

  24. highbrow May 4, 2008 11:58 a.m. Comment: 24

Off-Island-Jack seems to be deteriorating (his body hair is falling out!) and I think that’s because he’s dead and doesn’t belong off island. The island is trying to call him back and he’s fighting it. Claire died and Christian eventually came to collect her and bring her to the others. Now Christian is coming to see Jack, maybe for the same purpose.

I thought about it and I think all the “others” are dead. Look at Richard… he hasn’t aged. We haven’t really seen enough of the stories of the rest of the others to know if they’ve been aging or not. I haven’t decided if Ben is dead yet or not but I believe if he isn’t he will die eventually (maybe soon). At a minimum I think Jack and Locke died in the crash. Maybe Rose and maybe others as well. I think Michael died in the crash… I’ve often wondered about his seemingly “fresh from the dry cleaners” clothing in the pilot episode. He couldn’t kill himself off island because his purpose was not yet served. He had work to do on the freighter. Charlie died and Jack brought him back. The island or whatever tried a few times to kill Charlie off but Desmond interfered. In the end though, the island (fate?) always gets its man.

  25. kimothy May 4, 2008 4:45 p.m. Comment: 25

What if they all died during the flightcrash, but only the ppl that found there goal in life, realy go the light… and the rest of the ppl on the island still ave some goals to achieve… and they dont realise that… What if Hurley was right and they are all dead??? So they stay in their body ,like the theory above about claire, until they do what they suppose to do…. u notice that all of the characters have some very strong issues and they all seem to have their own reasons for their behaviour… So maybe they all dead, and the story about the plane that was found, with all the bodies is actually true??? And the science ppl cant rescue them, even if they want too…

Are we watching some dead ppl walking?? LOL

  26. eteo May 5, 2008 5:48 a.m. Comment: 26

Interesting, though it has been said before, and in this episode it is even as such stated by Hurley: something like: we are all dead.

love this theory. didn’t know if i should add to it here or create another entry. (this is my first time on the site). anyway…

    http://lost-theories.com/theories/2008/may/05/adding-about-claireand-how-she/

not only is claire dead, but so are locke and rose.

while reading this post it hit me that maybe both the living and the dead being able to coexist and interact on the island (in physical form) without them knowing who is dead & who is alive (or without the dead knowing they are dead—kate’s horse/christian/hurley’s weird friend). for me, that would explain a lot.

for instance, locke’s miraculous recovery from a spinal injury and ability to not only walk on the island, but to cheat death (living after being shot by ben) can be explained by the fact that he died in the crash & he’s in limbo where all physical infirmities are gone. same with rose, she’s actually dead, not miraculously cured of her cancer—and bernard is none the wiser.

this also would explain why some people still get sick. if you’re actually among the living you can get appendicitis (jack) or a tumor (ben) but not if you’re already dead.

and maybe this is why the island is so valuable to both widmore and ben. it gives them immortality and power over physical death. a place outside of earth life but the ability to still visit earth life whenever you want.

& since the island is in limbo that’s why no one can find it. and both ben/faraday figured out a way to travel to limbo. isn’t limbo outside of time? that would explain all the wacky time differences.

so about the folks that have actually died and are buried/gone etc. maybe they’ve left limbo and have gone to heaven.

That’s an awesome theory!!! Well done.

Also, sorry if already said, but Clare was really upset by seeing the dead bodies in the ground in the jungle. Maybe it upset her so much because she is already dead?

Thats a really good theorie and it explains so much +1 But why do you think her and Christian were in Jacob’s Cabin? And abstractarzt she gave birth to Aaron when she was alive then died in season 4.
