I believe that the “teleportation” that we see with Ben is also how Jack gets back to the beginning of the “circle”, possibly to correct something that went wrong.

Has anyone noticed the similarities between the scene when Ben wakes up in Tunisia and the opening scene of the Pilot Episode where Jack wakes up in the Jungle?
The two scenes are quite similar if you just look at them cinematically. They seem to have been filmed in pretty much the same manor. But beyond that, both characters wake up obviously disoriented. Ben gets sick. Now I cannot recall whether Jack actually gets sick when he wakes up or not, but i am pretty sure he didn’t feel marvelous. But the most glaring similarity to me is that they both wake up having slice wounds. Ben’s is on his arm, as we can see when he takes the parka off. Jack’s is on his back, the one he gets Kate to sew up. My point is, i think that whatever Ben did to get to Tunisia - teleport, time travel, whatever - Jack did the same thing just before the series starts. Now at the time that we viewed the Pilot, we just assumed that Jack was part of the crash and we attributed the wound he had to the crash. It has been pointed out many times, most recently by Andrelus, that it is highly unlikely for Jack to land that far into the jungle after falling out of the sky and survive, much less get up and walk out to the beach.
Other than Bernard, who fortunately had his seat to cushion his fall, Jack is the only survivor to not have landed on the beach with the wreckage or in the water. He would have had to fall through trees and bamboo in order to end up laying flat on his back. And correct me if i am wrong, but i would have to say the if a person were to be ejected from a plan crash and hit a tree branch during their fall, it would probably do a bit of damage. So that is why if think the clue in the pilot is the fact that Jack wakes up secluded from all other survivors and he has the same type of slice-like wound that Ben seems to have. I think that the wound may be some type of side effect of the “teleportation” or whatever it was.
Now it has been said that the original name for the series was supposed to be “The Circle”. I am sorry i do not have a reference for where i heard that, but i have heard that to be true. It has also been theorized that there is some sort of time loop happening on the island, which would make sense if the name of the show origianlly was actually “The Cirlcle”. I believe that the “teleportation” that we see with Ben is also how Jack gets back to the beginning of the “circle”, possibly to correct something that went wrong. I have just formulated this theory, so i have not been able to really go over it thoroughly, so please point out any things that might be inconsistent with my theory so far.

Hi Oz, there has been a whole lot of discussion on this topic if you go back to the day or two after last weeks episode aired. Thanks!
Ok, thanks, i will have to check them out.
Hey i just found that this has also been stated by AuronX220. Guess i wasn’t the only one to notice. :-)
Oz,
You are making good points, but like So_Lost said, a lot of people are saying this. What people need to explain to make this theory make sense is, how do we see Jack on the plane right before it crashes if he teleports back? And if he does Teleport back in time, where is the original Jack on the island? Now, if we want to say that Jack is conscious traveling like Desmond, then ok, but Ben is clearly teleporting his body, not just his mind, and I’m not sure Ben is time-traveling when he does so. I think there may be something to all of this, but we are missing some big pieces of the puzzle.
Maybe the Jack we’re seeing in the flash forwards, the one trying to get back to the island, is the Jack that wakes up in the bamboo. Maybe he did get back to the island through teleportation and his goal is to get everyone off the island this time.
I don’t believe Jack was really one of the survivors of the crash (not this time anyway…). His location and position at the beginning of the pilot episode makes me think he should have been killed when he was ejected by the crash.
And his tatttoos are a clue… something about he walks among us but is not one of us…
If this happens to be true, do you think that Jack is aware that this is a repeat of what happened before? I mean we know for a fact that consciousness can jump, so it is very possible Jack could remember the hypothetical previous time loop.
Highbrow, good point about the tattoos…
Jack is from the future. Jack is in the coffin (sorry!).
I think Ben’s scene was meant to echo Jack’s, but I don’t believe there’s any connection beyond the purely thematic. Good catch, though.
You little lap doggies still here? Time to leave the site. Little doggie is no longer calling the shots around here. Mean old dog is moving in. Boooya!
Now I feel dumb cause I wrote a theory like this yesterday thinking I was the only one who’d thought of it hehe
You explain it much better though, and I really do think there is a significance in both scenes :)
