It is cool how one post or one comment can get your mind thinking then all of a sudden you have a theory of your own. This then creates a domino effect and you end up solving (I hope) a couple of the shows unanswered questions. You may think you know the answers to these questions but I think this post will have you reconsidering.

1) Does the public think that Aaron is Kate’s child or Claire’s child?

2) Who are “Oceanic 7 & 8” that Jack refers to during Kate’s trial?

Question 1: During “Eggtown” Kate often refers to Aaron as “my son” throughout the episode. At the end of the episode Aaron refers to Kate as “Mommy”. During the middle of the episode Kate’s mom says “I want to see my grandson”. All this considered, I think it is safe to say that Kate’s mom, the general public, and even Aaron himself believe that Kate is the biological mother, right?

This would also indicate, obviously, that Kate was pregnant when the plane crashed. She would have been 7 or 8 months into her pregnancy, like Claire, for the timeframes to work given the date of the crash and the age of Aaron when rescued. This can be played off to the public, as really the only person that can prove that wrong would be the Marshall, who is dead (Thanks Morbius). Everyone else (the other O6 members) appears they would be willing to lie and say Kate was pregnant as part of this elaborate lie that has been set up for them to tell.

However, one thing doesn’t quite make sense. During the trial, Jack says “We landed in the water. I was hurt, pretty badly. In fact, if it weren’t for her, I would have never made it to the shore. She took care of me. She took care of all of us. She—she gave us first aid, water, found food, made shelter.” Now if Jack is saying this under oath I have to think that this is the story that has been told over and over again to the public as to what happened after the crash.

To me, Jack is indicating that Kate swam him back to shore. She found water. She made shelter. She found food. Would a woman 7 or 8 months into her pregnancy be able to do all this, specifically swim Jack to shore? Imagine Claire doing all this during her pregnancy. We all saw, through her, how limited the capabilities are for a woman this far into her pregnancy. She was barely able to move, let alone find food and water, make shelter, and especially be swimming people back to shore.

Either this is an oversight by the writers or it is safe to say that Aaron is NOT percieved as Kate’s child in the public eye. The story simply wouldn’t fly. If all this stands true, then we also have our answer to the second question.

Question 2: “Oceanic 7 & 8” would have to be Charlie and Claire. Charlie would be one because he made contact with the outside world (Penny) long after the crash, and Claire because someone would have had to give birth to Aaron. Maybe the O6 are saying that she died during childbirth, which is why Kate assumed the role of the mother.

Even though it pokes a hole in my own theory above I also want to mention something else Jack said about “Oceanic 7 & 8”. He said “She (Kate) tried to save the other two, but they didn’t—.” This sounds to me that the individuals were so badly injured from the crash that they died soon thereafter despite Kate’s efforts. This would then rule out Charlie because he made contact with Penny months after the crash. Did she not tell anybody that she talked to Charlie? If so, why not? Hmmmm. This would also rule out Claire because she would not have been alive long enough to give birth.

I don’t know. Please give some feedback people. Especially for this one because it is really bothering me.

Interesting but this isnt a theory. Please mark as so. +1

This issue was addressed by Lost writers/producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse in a podcast, they state the obvious, everything that Jack says on the stand regarding the crash of Flight 815 is a lie. So the identities of 7 + 8 is unimportant as this part of the story is also a lie. The important question is why are they telling this fabricated story, there is very little to be gained from putting names to the 7th and 8th, it could be that they are simply Steve and Scott!!!

Actually Jack contradicts himself on the stand.

First he says: Um..on September 22, 2004, Kate —Ms. Austen and I were both passengers on Oceanic Flight 815, which crash-landed on an island in the South Pacific.

He then says: Only eight of us survived the crash. We landed in the water. I was hurt, pretty badly. In fact, if it weren’t for her, I would have never made it to the shore. She took care of me. She took care of all of us.

How is this not a theory? I am theorizing on who the public thinks is the mother of Aaron and on who are the “other 2” Jack refers to during the trial.

Oh I see… It IS a theory. My bad heh.

No offense Stitch, but I am not going to listen to any Podcasts again from Cuse and Lindeloff. They have lied before and they will lie again.

I think its obvious that the world believes Aaron to be Kates son…unless it has been longer than we think and she really was pregnant on the island (when she told Sawyer she wasnt and he was pleased she got extremely upset with him!) and she just named him after Aaron??

To add to my last comment…that would also explain why Jack doesnt want to see the baby as there was always a bit of a love triangle there!!

Your dead right about reading something and the dominoe effec,t think ive found myself a new theory there lol

I’ve already read this same theory a lot but you do write it up better than some. There’s just no way Aron could be passed off as Kates son so whoever helped her leave the island also made it so she could have Aron. Some kind of deal.

Irocz, +1 and definitely a theory! What I think is the public believes that Aaron is Kate’s biological son, otherwise she wouldn’t be able to keep custody of him because of all the charges against her.

I also think Jack slipped up on the stand, saying they landed on an island and landed in the water. I don’t know if this was a mistake or not.

Either way, Kate could have been the least hurt of any of the “survivors” and therefore the only one available to do anything for them. (All part of the made up story, of course)

Finally, the 7 and 8th really don’t have to include Charlie because I don’t believe Penny would have said anything to give Des’s location away.

    Good job!!
