When I think of numbers, I think of Math
— AllAboutAlpert
I was thinking about the numbers again and I think I may have found a clue. When I think of numbers, I think of Math, and when I think of Math, I think of the most basic mathematic rule; pemdas (Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally)…Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.
This perfectly matches the numbers; 4,8,15,16,23,42. If you apply the PEMDAS rule to the numbers you get (4^8)*15/16+23-42…which equals 61,415. If you assign letter values to this total you get 6=f, 1=a, 4=d, 15=o…fado.
Fado (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fado), meaning destiny or fate is mournful music often pertaining to the sea. Lost, as a show, tends to be an extended mournful ballad pertaining to an island surrounded by water. I think that this is the answer…the island is about fate. It’s about people following their destiny and ending up on this island, and all of them have remorse for things they’ve done.
of course it is about fate, you can tell that just by watching the show. I give you props for the math thingy though, pretty cool.
You can make the numbers come out to anything using pemdas
“When I think of numbers, I think of Math ” hahaha - best quote ever.
no you can’t, not if you do it correctly.
Er kind of. Except:
4^8=65,536 *15=983,040 /16=61,440 +23=61,463 -42=61,421
61,421 = F A D U.
And as far as I know FADU isn’t actually anything. Sorry, unless of course I’ve done my maths wrong.
If you look hard enough, you can find relevence in anything. Good effort though. It Can also be looked at as BEDMAS (brackets, exponents, division, multiply, add, subtract) addition/subtraction and multiply/divide are reversable. When I do it i get 69886. The numbers (4 8 15 16 23 42) are from the valenzetti equation. Any other time one of the numbers pops up I believe its just the writers making a connection.
Well, I did the math in two different ways; the way I posted subtracted 48 (I was trying to do a circular type deal). I also did it another way, which I think is a little more profound.
if you calculate: 48(1^5)16/23+4-2, you result in 35.391, which translates into Cecia. Which got me thinking of the Cecia McLachlan, the wife of the late Alexander McLachlan, an australian politician who served as the director of the HUME Co. from its creation in 1920. Coincidence…I think not.
so now your just doing random operations, in random places, and splitting up digits. You are really streaching now. Coincidence….100%
Desmond Hume was Scottish not Australian
I’m not saying he was Australian, I’m just saying that the numbers are allegorical for a series of related results generated from variations of PEMDAS. I think it’s obvious that the writers had these connections in mind and found the exact numbers that, when applied to PEMDAS could generate all the source material they pulled together when writing the show.
Quote from LOSTpedia:
Apophenia is the perception of patterns, or connections, where in fact none exist.
I found this by typing in “numbers”
