good point, i can’t recall seeing the moon or sun but then again i havn’t gone out of my way to find them,i do remember seeing stars and clouds though.

We want you to share your theories, not your observations… the website is called lost-theories, not lost-observations.

If you want to post your observations on the show, then why not head over to the official lost message board, or one of the many other sites where people are posting their observations.

Or, come up with a theory about your observation — why do you think we’ve never seen the sun or moon in the show? Do you think that this somehow relates to why the island seems to be invisible to the outside world?

If you do that I would be happy not sad. Maybe then I could make it one, who knows. I stress that it is not the only way to share our thoughts is to make a theory. TOST, it is nice to see a good observation and then a theory on what you think about your observation. I am predicting that we are going to be overloaded with simple observations in the upcoming weeks, most of which we have already seen and discussed. This is, of course, due to the break and people watching earlier seasons over again.

I’ve seen the sun in numerous episodes, and there are people on this board who have theories on where the island is located based on where the sun was in certain episodes. I recall seeing the sun in Meet Kevin Johnson…can’t remember what part but it was very bright and low in the sky.

helloladies_itshurleytime, I agree with you. Irocz28, your wiev is insightful, good to see a person like you. kselvog, you may see the sun outside of the island in the show. It is normal because it doesn’t relate to island. I may be wrong but I don’t remember to show them (the sun and the moon) to us while people are on the island.

Have you ever seen the sun or moon in any other tv show. I can’t recall ever seeing it durring Starsky and Hutch. We never see the characters take a dump either. That doesn’t meant that the island has some kind of “magic digestive properties”.

Thats IT!!! A magic island where no one has to use the bathroom!!! We see a shower and sink int the hatch. but no toilet!!!! Thats why so many people are trying to capture the island and its powers!!!

What do you think it means? Several of us told you in response to your earlier post that we thought it meant nothing. If you think it means something, tell us what it might mean. Then you have a theory.

With no theory, this appears to be a trite and inconsequential question — which is not a theory.

lateralus, People are on the island, not street. They are in the nature. The sun and the moon are part of the nature. We nearly see everything on the island. Trees, houses, animals and mountains. nearly 4 season has passed, we have never seen the sun and the moon. isn’t it weird? There are many romantic scenes at night. Night, full moon and romance. But we haven’t seen it. Where is the sunset, where is the phosphorescence in the sea. I don’t buy it.

TOST — then tell us your theory. You rarely see the sun on any television show (or movie) unless they make a point of showing you the sun. It is hard to film the sun and it causes everything else to be cast in shadows. Frequently the sun is intentionally blocked during outdoor shooting.

Also,all the other things you are talking about are on ground level. We see the ground because people are on the ground.

Also, I think if there was no sun or moon, it would have been mentioned (since it is something the survivors would have noticed). They have not said anything, so there is no reason to think they are not there.

My guess is that if you watch all 70+ episodes again, you will find a scene where you can see the sun or the moon or at least proof of their existance. Why don’t you look again and let us know.

The Sun and Moon are at different positions throughout the day. You know, the whole watches and clocks, telling time and so forth. TV shows have to edit most of the stuff they shoot. So they make it a point not to film them.

Imagine trying to film a scene of Hurley skipping rocks at sundown. Sounds pretty. Now that ideal sundown time is only going to last a few minutes. It would take several days and several camera angles to edit that scene together and make that work right and still have the same pretty sundown.

Seems easier to film at noon when the sun doesn’t cast a such an obstuctive shadow. Camera work is all light and shadows.

lateralus, your explanations sound good. I don’t say anything about them. I say we should have seen once them in the show . It is weird to me not to see them at once on the island. We will see if I am onto something later in the show.

lateralus - you have an excellent point. Was about to say so myself. We, as watchers, want to believe that everything happens on a timeline for the characters of the show. Well these sometimes take many many shoots to get the scene right. If we did see the sun or moon, TOST, then this post would be about how the show has production errors.

I like your observation, though. And I dont think people should be harsh just because you dont have a full blown theory. BUT it just so happens that there is a section of this site dedicated to observations and questions and unfortunately, that section is called “not really theories.” AND unfortunately, when something gets moved to that section, it is not viewed nearly as much. It is just the way the site is. Nobody is telling you not to post your observations, we are just telling you that they need to get moved to the proper section by us flagging it properly. Lots of people come to this site to read theories and we want to find our stuff in the proper section. It is all just the way it is organized to make it easier to weed through all of the posts to find what we are looking for.

I do like your observation, even though I think there is a simple explanation for it. So I am going to give a +1 for thinking outside the box. Good work!

I think there should be more tolerance for observations/ questions/etc., especially when they are not the SOS as created a million times before, as this one wasn’t.

TOST, I don’t have an answer for you, never really thought about it, so this was a new topic. But I think lateralus seemed to have a good line of reasoning on the subject.

What you posted in the comment is not really a theory either. I thought you were trying to be silly. Sorry. You are saying it is strange that we have not seen the moon or the sun. We are telling you it is not strange.

Faraday said the light doesn’t bend as it should. The island is different/weird/unique. Those are not theories. Those are things we already know.

So that leaves [and I am fixing your post]: Maybe the sun and moon do not exist on the island.

Is that your theory? If so, it barely qualifies. What does this imply? Are we on another planet? Another plane of existance? If it is a theory, it is based solely on your belief that you never saw the sun or moon in any episode. I think you may be incorrect in that belief, but even if we haven’t actually seen it , the Losties would certainly have said something like “Hey! Where the f- is the sun?” if there was no sun.

And here is more: We can assume there is a sun because we have day and we have night. The days and nights appear to be the same length as they are on earth. The moon is fairly inconsequential in this respect — but we do see the tide go in and out, so there is likely a moon as well.

So you really thought it was necessary to bring up this rather inconsequential (and possibly erroneous) observation again rather than let it die (at least until you can come up with a reason why it is important)?

And after I typed all that — Can you identify that shining orb above Hurley from the first episode this season?

ozzig — this will show up after my other post which is rather conclusive on the issue — but I pointed out precisely what lateralus pointed out here when TOST made a nearly identical post yesterday (without the whining about being moved to “Not a Theory”). TOST just doesn’t want to accept it. But now the case is closed and this thread and “theory” can die.

That is what I wanted to. I mean we have to talk about it and tell our opinions. I have said lateralus’ s explanations sound good. You know man of science/ man of faith. Producers often gives chance to pick a side. They do not emphisize to one overhelmingly.

You know the last episode, Michael bought the gun to shoot himself then Mr. Friendly took the gun. Did he change the gun or island has an effect on it? You can choose whatever you want. In this discussion, you can pick a side that it is a filming procedure not to shoot them (the sun and the moon) or you can say that it is not normal not to see them once. I think Faraday will help us what it is meaning. ( I think he is the only guy give us clear information so far) or Producers see my opinion and decided to part them in one episode to clear it :)

I disagree with you on the tolerance for observations and questions UNLESS they bear directly on a theory. There are dozens of other places that will accept your observations and questions without theories. Here, the observations and questions should be tied to a theory — or else we get a billion posts that push the real content out of sight. Anyway, TOST got an answer yesterday before he was pushed to the “Not really theories” list. He didn’t like the answer so he posted again without addressing anything he was already told.

TOST, if there were no sun and moon on the island, would one of the characters not have mentioned it by now? Would this not have been a fairly major change of circumstances for everyone on the plane, to suddenly be stranded on an island where they can’t see the sun or moon anymore?

Maybe they’ve been so preoccupied with all the polar bears and smoke monsters that they just haven’t noticed that the sun has disappeared. Is that what you are trying to get us to believe?

Karl looks up and says something like “There is not going to be a moon tonight.” He doesn’t say — “we can’t see the moon on the island because we are in the twilight zone.” And Kate and Sawyer don’t answer by sayingL “Hey Bobby, we haven’t seen the moon since we got here.”

Chuck, I do like your pictures. I dont like your attitude all of the time but the pics are cool when used to illustrate a point. Like the ones we see the sun that disprove the observation that there is no sun in Lost. That is even better than talking about it. It is proof. Chucks pictures CAN be good when used for information. My issue was that he claimed he never called anyone a troll or insulted them (he just puts up pictures of trolls and insults) which was a manipulative skew of the truth. As is everything he says. He baits and sets up, so he can then be the hero of the day at the end. I’ve seen people like that in the workplace. It always catches up with them.

so in response to the acutal question, I agree with the commenters that the sun and moon do appear basically normal to the losties. My evidence of this is that no one has noted their absence.

dabs — I have defended lockeko (the real one) several times. I have attacked his attacker pretty viciously because he was being viciously attacked.
