Figuring out votes

— AllAboutAlpert

It’s been annoying me that this site tells you how many people casted a vote and what the final rating is, but it doesn’t tell you how many people casted +1s versus -1s.

So, for those of you that are interested, I figured out the formula you can do.

Assume X = +1s and Y = -1s

Y = {(total votes - rate)^2} / {-2(total votes - rate)}

X = total votes - absolute value of Y

    Yay for basic algebra.

    You can’t count me. I don’t vote at all on opinions, observations etc. If a theory is good I will plus it, otherwise don’t vote.

    Easy way: Subtract the rating (disregard + or - sign) from the total votes cast and divide by 2. That is the votes in the minority. Now add the rating (disregard the + or - sign) back to the votes in the minority and that is the majority votes.

    For example if there are 20 votes and the rating is +6 —

    (1) Subtract the rating (6) from the total (20) (=14) and divide by 2 = 7 votes for the minority (or -1 here).

    (2) Add the rating (6) back to the minority (7) = 13 votes for the majority (+1).

    But I think your math is a bit off.

    Let’s try it again:

    W=final rating X=number of positive votes Y=number of negative votes Z=total votes cast

    X+Y=Z; X-Y=W;

    X=(Z+W)/2

    Y=(Z-W)/2

    So, for example, if 31 votes were cast, and the final rating is 25, then

    X=(31+25)/2 = 28 plus votes

    Y=(31-25)/2 = 3 minus votes

    holy frijoles — simplify the equation:

    negative votes = -2 (total votes - rating)

    BTW, LOL, cobra

    duh — don’t know what’s happened to my comment but here we go again:

    no. negative votes equals: -2(toal votes - rating)

    no. of positive votes equals: total votes - no. of negative votes

    [note to file: apparently the use of the number symbol causes problems…]

    Val.

    Wrong.

    Unless you mean to say,

    neg votes = (total votes - rating) divided by 2

    Which is exactly what I already have shown, with the equation

    Y=(Z-W)/2

    Why are people so afraid of symbols?

    caue evryone likes to shoot down all theories that dont matche their own. they need to just change it to vote 1-10 how good the theory is this system is way gay indeed (+1)
