Just an observation. The shots fired on the freighter were from machine guns. The shots that killed Karl & Rousseau were from ‘silenced’ weapons.
Therefore, it seems likely that these aren’t the same people. I guess I’m saying that Widmore’s people did not fire those shots!!

I disagree. My guess is that there is a hoard of weapons on the freighter. Just because they were using machine guns on the dock doesn’t mean those are the only guns they have. See my post a few spots down.
They’re mercenaries. They probably have a whole crapload of weapons on the freighter.
It is strange that the shooters are starting to kill people before they have their hands on Ben. Why start killing the very people who could provide information. There is something very strange about a “shoot first and ask questions later” approach to capturing Ben.
That’s why they didn’t kill Alex. They only need one scared kid to point the way.
I think it’s either the others who are scared and shot Or The freighters people are trying to find Alex daughter to exploit Ben Someone knew that Ben was leading his daughter that way and ratted on them to “the freighter people” Could Karl be a spy? Just a thought. What is his history by the way? I think Ben really did want to protect his daughter. I think Rousseau is alive!
If the mercs have intel on Ben, then they already know of Alex. If they wanted Alex dead, she’s a cross-hair and trigger-pull away.

The freighter people couldn’t even prevent Ben’s ‘spy’ from disabling their boat - are we really expected to believe that they have intel on where Ben is sending Karl & Rousseau. It seems far more likely that Ben wanted Karl dead and set the whole thing up. I also doubt Rousseau is dead - her whole story doesn’t add up so I’m sure there is more to her than meets the eye.
