If Widmore was behind the staged plane, why does his own crew think that it was Ben Linus?

There are many fingers being pointed in many directions in regards to how the staged plane landed at the bottom of the ocean. I think we have the answer now based on Tom’s proof that he provided Michael. I am assuming that the purchase order, shipping logs, and photos of dug up graves are valid and are proof that Widmore is behind this.

However, I feel people are being manipulated in this whole process. This somewhat stems off my previous theory that Captain Gault is working for Ben. See this for more on that theory:

Ben and Tom: They both obviously know that Widmore planted the plane. Tom got his orders from Ben, and Tom showed Michael the purchase orders and shipping logs for the staged incident. Tom also said that “the whole mess was dropped down a trench deep enough to guarantee that no remains are ever gonna be identified.”

Captain Gault: Remember the conversation that Sayid and Desmond had with him when they first met. He indicated that Ben Linus was behind the staged plane. Also, when he showed Sayid and Des the black box from 815 he said that “it took a considerable amount of Mr. Widmore’s resources to procure it”. If he was working for Widmore, wouldn’t he know that it actually was Widmore who planted the plane, not Ben?

Frank: He thought on his own that the plane was a fake when he saw the footage of the pilot down there. He told Michael that the plane they found at the bottom of the trench was a fake. He also told Michael “the owner of this boat believes me. Charles Widmore. He believes that 815 is still out there somewhere.”

My Questions are these:

1) If Widmore was behind the staged plane, why does his own crew (Gault and Frank) think that it was Ben Linus? Is he manipulating them too?

I think Widmore believes he is successfully manipulating the crew. What he does not know is that Captain Gault is secretly working for Ben. When Michael slips the note “don’t trust the captain” it is because he knows Gault will tell them Ben was behind the staging. But Michael knows (through Toms evidence) that is was actually Widmore.

2) Why does Frank say “the owner of this boat (Widmore) thinks 815 is still out there”? Obviously Widmore KNOWS 815 is still out there if he planted a fake plane at the bottom of the ocean so everyone thinks that is the real one. The crew of the boat does not know Widmore was behind the staged plane.

Frank thinks that it was Ben who was behind the staging of the plane. He is actually just searching for the truth about 815 and his pilot friend. This is why he becomes so emotional when he hears Julliettes name. He knows if there is someone on the island besides an 815er then Ben must be close.

3) How did Widmore come to realize that 815 did in fact crash on the island? What information prompted him to plant the fake plane? Did Widmore have a source on the island?

I think the person Widmore was beating up in that video was the one who leaked the information on the island and that the real 815 crashed there. He also told him information on a crippled man who could walk, problems with child birth, possible fountain of youth (Richard), and all the other island secrets, along with how to come and go to the island. Once Widmore heard this he planted the fake plane. Widmore initially became somewhat curious of the island a long time ago, from the Blackrock information he bought at the auction.
