Sayid works for Ben because he causes the freighter folk to go to the island by blowing Michael’s cover. This causes the death of some 815ers and he feels guilty like Michael did. He becomes the new Michael.

After Sayid returns to the mainland he is just like Michael and feels responsible for the deaths of his friends, and Ben uses this to his advantage. Ben convinces Sayid to kill for him so that he can save whoever is left.

that is a great thought. a good clue is how emotional sayid was at the end of The Economist.

I was expecting the captain to say Michaels true name before Sayid did.

I thought that would provide a nice little spanner in the works.

i agree 100%. I think that Sayid exposing Michael, and the ensuing fallout, will prove to be “the last time he thought with his heart,” as Ben alludes to in The Economist.

Yep. That works. At the very least Sayid’s actions here are the beginning of the chain of events that will produce enough guilt for him to work for Ben and try and make amends. +1

said the same thing at the end of the show. i, too, am curious to find out if the captain knows all of this already. especially based on his facial reaction - which was pretty much nothing.

but where does all of this leave desmond?

Sayid just loves getting involved. Lol..he’s a meddler. Oh, and realy good point. This does seem like the start of Sayids problems.

+1. However, I will leave room for the possibility that the captain is in on the Michael-Ben thing. Twice during the episode he looked as if something was up.

I think Sayid knows what he’s doing and also knows that he can’t trust those people on the freighter. Sorry -1.

You’re all forgetting that perhaps Sayid might have started to work for Ben (knowingly or not…see below) during the meeting between Locke, Ben, and Sayid in the game room of the barracks. We never saw the ending of the conversation and we don’t know what Sayid gave Locke/Ben in order to leave the barracks with Charlotte. I think we have not yet seen the heart/gun incident that ends up being Sayid’s undoing. I think its a long con where Sayid thinks he’s playing Ben/Locke to get onto the freighter but in fact he’s unknowingly doing exactly what Ben wants him to do.
