The captain is also working with Ben and Michael.

This is just a quick observation. I just watched the last episode and noticed some things.
Did anyone find anything suspicious about the captain’s reaction (or lack there of) to Sayid ratting out Michael? It almost looked like he was hearing something he already knew.
And Michael didn’t seem too concerned as he just stood there listening to the allegations against him. He didn’t try to stop Sayid or defend himself or anything.
Also, Sayid and Desmond initially confronted Michael on the docks earlier in the episode after the captain told him to clean up the mess. As the captain walked up the steps he gave a look back at Michael when he was talking to Desmond and Sayid. Why did he look back at a “lowly deckhand”? And the way they both looked at each other simultaneously during that scene, it just looked like they were in cahoots with each other.
My theory is this: The captain is also working with Ben and Michael. This is why neither him nor Michael show any emotion to Sayids big news. They already know each other well.
I think this is how Ben will get “one up” on Widmore. The captain doesn’t seem like he is in too much of a rush to get the boat moving. He may be waiting for his next orders from Ben. He also doesn’t seem too concerned that someone is sabotaging all the communication and kitchen equipment on the boat. He knew his would happen and he knew (and maybe assisted) Michael in doing it.
And Ben didn’t want everyone on the boat to die. Maybe he meant the captain in particular. What do you think?

I noticed it too. I said in an earlier thread that I had expected the captain to reveal Michael’s true name before Sayid finished his sentence.
And I also thought it odd, not that the captain glanced back at ‘Kevin’, but it was just that, a glance.
If the captain DIDN’T know that Michael and Sayid knew each other , then I would expect him to look back and appear suspicious of why the two new guests on board would want to speak with the deckhand in that manner. Well that’s my interpretation.
I have to agree with you. The captain is surely in on Ben’s plan. There would be no other reason to show the backwards glance on the stairs if he wasn’t. This isn’t a reality show: it’s a TV drama with a script, a director and a cameraman.
I like this a lot. +1
I think you are forgetting the fact that someone gave Sayid and Des a note “Don’t Trust the Captain. We are led to believe that this note was from Michael. Not sure why he would do that if they were together.
I do, however agree that the captain knows who Michael is. Not sure of the signifigance yet.
I also believe Captain Gault knew about Kevin’s real identity. Assuming Michael wrote that note to Sayid and Desmond while they were staying in the sickbay would be because Michael had read a detailed file that Tom had gave him back in NY, which included an image of the dug up bodies, the purchase order for the Boeing-777, plus the shipping logs for the freighter that dropped the mess down to the bottom of the ocean.
roju23, Michael obviously wrote the note because Gault had told Sayid and Desmond a phony story, while Michael knew the real story of the whole situation.
I wouldn’t say they know each other “well”. Michael has only been on the boat for a week - maybe less. Prior to that he was occupido. That doesn’t mean the captain doesn’t know about Michael and everyone else from 815.
excellent +1
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think Michael gave them the note “don’t trust the captain” because he knows the captain is going to tell them the phony story of how the plane is at the bottom of the ocean. Remember, the captain told them that Ben is responsible for it, when it is actually Widmore who put the plane there.
“The captain doesn’t seem like he is in too much of a rush to get the boat moving. He may be waiting for his next orders from Ben. He also doesn’t seem too concerned that someone is sabotaging all the communication and kitchen equipment on the boat.”
However, he was furious when someone tried to leave the boat! remember…
Michael and the capt are partners
Another possibility is that the Captain is indeed working for Widmore and that both Widmore and the Captain know that Kevin Johnson is Michael Dawson. The Captain then watches Kevin/Michael’s actions and allows him to pull off his sabotages hoping that Kevin/Michael will lead him to info about Ben. Who’s to say the captain didn’t monitor and trace the communications between Ben and Michael. I think both Ben and Widmore think they have the ace up their sleeve that will defeat the other, the question is which one actually does.
If he knew already that is bad news for our losties! That means he is a step ahead of them in this “game.”
It would make no sense, because he said “don’t trust the captain.” I donm’t think this is correct that the captain is working for Benjamin Linus.
I know it’s confusing Namlesslinus (everything on this show is). Let me explain.
Michael does not want to work with Ben and the Captain. The only reason he is working with them is because Tom told Michael he had to do it to protect his friends. By saying “Don’t trust the Captain” he is doing exactly what he wants to do: Protect his friends. While he is willing to work with Ben and the Captain, he does not want Des and Sayid to be manipulated by the Captain.
i think it’s safe to say that the captain is aware of Kevin Johnson’s true identity, but anything beyond that is simply a possibility
I agree with DriveShaft, in that the captain is aware that Kevin Johnson is not who he says he is, although I don’t see how they could be working together. I think that the Captain suspected Kevin’s true identity all along, so he’s not at all surprised when Sayid rats him out.
And I think Michael expected to be caught all along, so he didn’t bother defending himself.
I’d like to entertain the possibility that the Captain knows about Ben, and he’s attempting to exploit Ben and gain something for himself in the deal. Not sure what that “something” is yet.
