Hey Mikey! You telling us not to trust the captain?!? Yeah. Right.

— ChuckG

In the last episode, we found two of our heroes (Sayid and Desmond) imprisoned on the mysterious freighter where nothing is working and several people are going nuts. Our heroes are eating their lima beans and receive a note telling them omniously: “Don’t Trust The Captain.”

Ray eventually comes to bring them to their meeting with the Captain — but not before they watch the suicide of the apparenty insane Regina. No one is phased.

boys

The Captain appears to be pretty forthright with them. He explains that he didn’t have his crew try to rescue Regina because he didn’t want to lose anyone else. Afterall, we did see her wrapped in chains before jumping overboard. There is not much chance of someone being able to rescue her without serious risk.

captain

The Captain suspects that the “cabin fever” is caused by their proximity to the island and then tells his guests that there is a saboteur aboard the ship that is screwed with the engines. Without the engines they can’t move out of the danger zone. He also tells S&D that it is Charles Widmore’s boat and shows them the flight data recorder from the apparently-fake Flight 815 that is at the bottom of the ocean and he suspects Ben Linus is involved. Our captain is certainly a little rough around the edges, but he has done little on his own to doubt his honesty. Indeed, after the meeting, the captain exhibits a little trust in our boys and lets them out of captivity and gives them a beautiful interior stateroom — with bugs and bloodstains — oh well. [Dancing and drinks on the lido deck after dinner.]

Now lets look at the apparent author of the note — It is none other than our old friend Michael! Of course, Michael is not a friend — he killed two people (one because she was in the wrong place) and set Henry/Ben free. He then led four of his compatriots into a trap in order to get his son (who doesn’t really want to leave the island anyway) back. Now he has come back on a boat under an assumed name…

Michael

So, who do you trust? Michael or the Captain? Until I learn more (and we may learn a lot more tomorrow night), I stick with the Captain.

Oh — and I also think that Captain GAULT could very well be “R.G.”

Thanks BC — I figured out the image thing a few days ago (and have been using them for fun — and often unnecessarily — in my comments) — I find the site color a bit drab and the pictures brighten things up.

You can have a plus one for the pics of Desmond ;-) He is fast becoming my Lost crush and I am considering becoming MrsHume.

Actually though your theory is good but I disagree with one thing. I trust Michael. I say this because myself and some others have long argued that Mike did what he had to in order to save Walt. As a mum and a mum-to-be I totally empathise with that. I’m not saying what he did was right but I can understand and forgive it..

    Excellent = )

I find its simmilar to the “projection” of Harper telling Juliet to kill Charlote and Daniel in order to save the Island when in fact the opposite was true.

I believe Ben wants to purge the Island once more, as well as to find the freighter and get rid of everyone there. It seems that the Black Smoke (Fake projections of people) wants to get rid of the people as well. Could Ben be manipulated by the smoke, is that what happened when he went with Richard Alpert in the jungle, he was effectively raised by the sentient smoke, or the real hostiles(natives of the island).

In some way I think the smoke beings are ancient ascendants just like the common stories of Atlantis where people ascended to a higher plane of being, and as a result the Island of Atlantis was forever lost.

    Pardon my rants………..great Post. +1

Mrssawyer/hume — I am not sure who to believe — but until we get more information (and I suspect we will get a lot in the next episode), I refuse to distrust the captain while trusting Benedict Michael.

I gotta agree here. So far the captain has said everything we already know to be true. What’s not to trust? I hope there are some bamboo shoots laying around the ship for Sayid to use on Mikey…he’s got it coming.

Do you think that Michael went back to the world, acted on Romeo and Juliet with DiCaprio and then came back?…. hehehe, Just kidding, nice theory there, I don’t like Michael so much either he is stubborn as he is stupid and I hate stupid people.

Good theory Chuck, but I’m backing Ben and Mike.

  17. MasterLocke Mar 19, 2008 4:10 p.m. Comment: 17

Walt’s whereabouts? I think Ben has Walt under some sort of captivity and is using Micheal as his off-island pawn. “A father will do anything for his son…”

As far as who I’m putting my trust into right now… well… neither.

I believe the real question is who do we trust out of Ben and Widemore as Micheal is just a puppet with Ben holding Walt over his head and Captain Gault is just another chess piece used by Widemore. Perhaps a knight…

Along those lines… I’m beginning to side with Ben. He’s about to spill his beans to the Locke camp tomorrow. Should be interesting!

  18. HiMOM Mar 19, 2008 4:11 p.m. Comment: 18

And where the f is walt?”

seriously? who do you think that is next to michael in the boat?

you think if walt was missing, michael would just peacefully ride away?

    Dad?!?!

    waaaaaaaaaalt!!!!!!!

  20. ChuckG Mar 19, 2008 5:06 p.m. Comment: 20

wtf — I cannot back Ben — he hasn’t told the truth yet.

Michael may turn good in the end — but I doubt it — otherwise someone would have attended his funeral!

  21. Allthetimeintheworld Mar 19, 2008 5:38 p.m. Comment: 21

Some form of irony is represented by the contrast between the Island and the real world. What I mean is Michael sacrificed everyone to save his son and himself, and he just might end up sacrificing himself to save everyone to get off the Island. Thats why in Meet Kevin Johnson he says he is on the boat to die, which leads me to believe he is also the man in the coffin.

  22. Annie79 Mar 19, 2008 5:44 p.m. Comment: 22

+1 Chuck, because I don’t trust Ben. If Michael is Ben’s ‘Man on the boat’ and wrote the note not to trust the Captain. It makes sense to trust the Captain if there is a choice. Ben is obsessed with the island. Michael is obsessed with Waaaaalt. Neither one has shown loyalty to the Losties.

  23. dabiatchishere Mar 19, 2008 7:04 p.m. Comment: 23

Chuck, The Captain has been told what to say, by someone with higher authority then himself, so I would not be inclined to believe him, as he is only on a need to know basis, following orders. He certainly would have no knowledge of what the “black box” contains”, if anything.

Given that Michael is working for Ben, that in itself says Ben should not be trusted, as I believe Ben wants “the freighter” destroyed in the long run.

If I had to choose one more than the other to be believed, it would be Michael, the lesser of two evils. Why? Freighter people……..Bad! They are not there to rescue anyone!

    Interesting discussion!

  24. ChuckG Mar 19, 2008 7:25 p.m. Comment: 24

dabiatch or dab or whatever you want me to call you…

I think it is possible that the Captain is up to no good — but I am definitely not sold on Michael. He only looks out for himself and Waaaaaaalt.

We are led to believe the freighter is bad — but I don’t find the four folks they were bringing to the island to be so evil — well, maybe Miles. I get a bad vibe from the crew, but not from the captain… we will see…

I suspect my opinions will shift a lot tomorrow. It depends whether the alternate title for “Meet Kevin Johnson” is “The Salvation of Michael Dawson” or “The Devil’s Advocate.”

  25. dabiatchishere Mar 19, 2008 7:53 p.m. Comment: 25

Chuck, Dab will do. If the freighter isn’t there to rescue anyone, than I’d say bad, but, yes we will see. And, the Captain, isn’t exactly like Captain Highliner, now is he? lol
