The Black Rock came to the island a very, very, very long time ago, Magnus Hanso was the captain of the Black Rock, and hes the same person as Alvar Hanso (still workin’ on that one, but it’ll all fit together nicely when I’m done, promise.)
In the flashforward Jack said to Kate ‘We have to go back’ , but when he said ‘Back’ he really meant “Back”. Jack is Jacob from the future.
I apologise in advance for all the technical jargon I’m about to use but there is no other way.
There are time anomalies on the island its a sort of “Quasi-omni-temporal-warp-vortex if you will, and you have come in at the correct bearing to avoid time shifts, like the helicopter it came in at a bearing of 325, so as it was afternoon it will have arrived at around 15:25 (give or take a few seconds).
So because of the anomalies some people on the island start “spanning” time and experience all time simultaneously, imagine experiencing the Crucifixation, Watergate, and the day Cliff Richard was shot all in a single nano second and you will begin to get some idea of what I mean by “spanning”.
Anyway, back to the Jack stuff, Jack “spans” and when he “spans” he “spans” like no man has ever “spanned” before, he “spans” right back to his life before the island and kills his father, either for not being sober enough or maybe he thinks he’s gonna sleep with his future wife, not important.
While Jacks “spanning” he accidently “spans” into the future were hes returned to the island, and he gets killed in the future. So now Jacks conciousness is stuck in the future, in a cabin with his dads ‘time-line-ghost’ (cause Jack killed him using time travel so a ‘time-line-ghost’ appears on the island) So Jack is stuck in the cabin arguing with his dads ‘time-line-ghost’ saying ‘I’m gonna fix this’ but his dad keeps lecturing him about how he ‘just don’t have what it takes’. Now do you understand why Ben made a circle of black ash around the cabin? Who wouldn’t?
Oh yeah one more thing the whispers are other ‘time-line-ghosts’ “stranded” “between” “time-lines”. And when a “window” or “manhole” between times is opened then things like people, boars, polar bears and horse come through them. You can fit a lot more stuff through a “window” than you can through a “manhole”, so “windows” are probably the best kind to use.

so you are suggesting before starting to watch this show we all should def get our butts to university become crazy sciantist so we would could actually understand the show and all of yours tehincal terms. I got degree in retail menagmant and i think i get it .Maybe not your “tehnical terms” but like the rest of us i think i get the point of the show. Nothing personal just lots of blah,blah..
