Over the past i have written theories about why Michael killed Ana Lucia, (not so much Libby to me it looked like a genuine accident). The episode regarding “the other woman” may have shed some light on why Michael murderd Ana.
In the episode “3-min” we are shown through island flashback that Michael was held captive for a number of days by the others. Pehaps during that time Juliet snuck in to the hut and offered a deal to Michael. We have seen her do deals with the losties before. (Jack, with the video)
To me, there was other alternatives to free Ben to get Walt back. Ana Lucia did not have to die which highlights to me that Michael was ordered or influced to kill Ana Lucia.
The only thing that does not support this theory is Juliet did not know the real person behind Goodwins murder. Therefore not knowing Ana Lucia was the culprit. But the others also seemed to know Sawyer killed fake Tom Sawyer in Sydney (Sawyer was the only one that knew about Fake Sawyers death). So Juliet could have found out who killed Goodwin regarding how they also found out Sawyers Secrets.
There is a motive now, and Juliet is behind it.

I don’t agree, although you have a good point. I think Juliet is actually what we see on screen. The suspect part of her character(wanting to kill Ben etc) has been explained.I was suspicious myself and posted this theory last yearhttp://www.lost-theories.com/theories/2007/aug/12/jack-juliet/ but I now think Juliet is just another pawn in this game.
Pacey, Ben mentioned to Juliet that Goodwin was passionately trying to convert Ana so I think she would know who killed him.
Lojozz, then that further states my point, Juliet knew who killed her lover. There was no reason why Michael would kill Ana, the only explanation i can think of is, alot more was said to Michael then we saw in “three minute” ep.
WTF you say that Juliet was a another pawn in Bens game, what if this was part of Bens game, manipulating Juliet into influencing Michael to kill Ana Lucia. This could be possible, we’ve seen Ben do worse manipulations.
pacey, although you make a good point, I disagree because we have no proof. This all happened a long time ago and I would think, by now, we would have had a glimpse of what really happened.
Michael was desperately trying to get himself and his son off the island and would follow Ben’s orders to do to anything to get that done.
i dont know if you saw the abc.com mobisodes, but in “The Deal” it shows that juliet was the one who talked to michael, it doesnt show her telling him to kill ana lucia, but it could have happened another time. don’t know if i believe the theory, just wanted to add that.
Annie, Ben never gave the order to Michael, he was held prisnor in the losties camp at the time.
As we have seen through Michaels flashback he was ordered to release Ben and bring four losties back, but never to kill Ana Lucia or any body else. There was other alternatives to getting Walt back, one plan could have been to tell Jack and hatch a plan (rescue mission) other then release the bargining chip(Ben) and killing losties.
Time will only tell if there is more to this story, i’m still waiting on a glimpse of Dannielles flashback since season one, because this event happened in season 2 doesn’t mean it won’t be rehashed again.

I missed the mobisodes as well. I wonder if we are to consider them cannon for the show?
I think you bring up some good points, Pacey. I do have trouble thinking of Juliet doing that, but she did kill Danny, so ??
Another thing, I thought ( regarding Ben’s statement to Juliet about Goodwins interest in AnaLucia), was that he was trying to plant a little jealousy and doubt in Juliet.
And if Libby is the “double agent sent to spy on Hugo in the insane asylum” then maybe Ana-Lucia and Libby were targeted killings.
Ozzig, I thought that as well, Ben the master manipulator brainwashing Ju;iet into hating Ana Lucia even more.
Rimland, you make an intresting point on Libby, it can be assumed that Libby is working for Widmore/frieghties and therefore a direct enemy to Bens group, but it could be argued that Libby was killed for simply being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Lockeko, if the mobsode wasn’t in the show then the produces took it out for a reason, if they were edited out of the show because of time then they would be in the deleted scenes of the DVD.
