I was watching Lost last night on Sky when I noticed Harper was soaked. Granted it was raining, but she was soaked.
I then remembered that Walt it his apparition to Shannon he to was drenched (and if memory serves water was coming out of his mouth).
The water has a key part to the island and its powers but I cannot put my finger on it.
I know water is supposed to be powerful and the ‘supernatural’ energies it holds are supposed to be fantastic as well as healing abilities.
Perhaps this is related to the over zealous immune system in pregnant women, the ‘extended’ youthful(ness) of the Islands inhabitants, the dead people disappearing occasionally, and the occasion sub-human strength showed in the Ethan etc.

nice idea water is important and needed for anything to excist and survive +1 for a good idea!
And Christian had to stand in it for a while, which looked ridiculous, but maybe he had to because there wasn’t another source nearby (rain). +1 there is something to this.

The does appear to be something important about water, but what? The only thought I’ve had is that maybe it’s needed as some sort of conduit, whether for projection or moving though time/space.

well since water is the universal solvent, maybe whatever happnes requires water to be applied before the hologram/apparition can appear to others.

The visions, “the whispers” and “Smokie” are often accompanied by rain or severe storms. The rain and storms are a sign of a change in air temperature which may alter the electromagnetic properties on “the island”, which could account for these things.
If anyone knows more on this subject, I would love to hear about it!
Perhaps “the island” has developed some sort of technology which acts as protection from outsiders finding “the island”, and allows for travel by “the others”, to and from it, under controlled circumstances.

Personally I think water ties into the Island being a living thing. The rain stops when Walt wants it(we’re led to believe he controls the weather, I’m not convinced), island water gives life to Aaron after the crash when Claire says she hasn’t felt the baby for days, the tides pull Johanna(an ‘experienced swimmer’ - of all the singular details to share about an insignificant character, this one is pretty telling) out to sea as a form of bait for Jack, lightning, pounding waves, & a riptide are the first 3 supposed threats to Charlie’s life… I think water is just another ‘extremity’ of the island, an opposable thumb so to speak. However, it’s just as likely that someone has harnessed the weather(Dharma was trying to)…..either way, I think there’s some form of consciousness behind it, whether it be the island itself or a human or jacob or .
