“What would be the perfect season finale”?

— Irocz28

This is not a spoiler, but I do think it is a great idea for a season 4 finale. It’s a long read, but check it out, and I would appreciate some feedback.

I have been asking myself “What would be the perfect season finale”? At this point, any season finale less than the complete mindf* that was “Through the Looking Glass” would be a big letdown to all Lost fans (well, me at least). In that episode we had something big happen in the grande scheme of things (flashforward OFF the island) and we had a prominent character die (Charlie). If the writers take this approach, we will have both happen once again, but bigger.

The final scene of the season begins with some of the Oceanic “7” being rescued by Frank in the chopper. The Oceanic 6, in my opinion, will be Jack, Hurley, Kate, Jin, Sun, and Sayid (who is already on the freighter). For the record, Hurley, Jin, and Sun have also been taken back to the freighter at this point. Kate will also have Aron, but he will not officially be one of the “6”. Also being taken off the island are Daniel and Charlotte. At this point, they have done what they needed to do on the island and are ready to report back to Mr. Widmore. Oh, and also ready to board the chopper (Oceanic #7) is Sawyer…..

I think he will be one of the two other crash survivors that isn’t one of the Oceanic 6 (referencing how Jack said at the trial that eight survived the crash). The other one would be Charlie as he made contact with the outside world (Penny) months after the crash. How can they play him off as having died instantly in the crash after something like that???

I know everyone thinks that Sawyer wants to stay on the island, but do you really think he would stay there without Kate? He may have nothing to go back to in the “real world”, but without Kate, he has even less on the island. He may be stubborn, but he is not stupid. He would not let Kate just get on a chopper and leave the island never to see him again. He would go with her if that is what it came down to. Remember when Kate said, “How long can do you think we can play house?” Sawyer responded with “Why don’t we find out?” He is only interested in staying and playing house if she will stay with him.

Also, remember, if there is a connection between who is able to leave and their proximity to the hatch implosion, then Sawyer would be able to leave since he was on the docks at the time.

OK, at this point, Frank is planning on taking off with Kate (holding Aron), Sawyer, Daniel, and Charlotte. Jack does not plan on leaving yet. He will not leave anyone behind. I cannot see Jack willingly leaving anyone on the island. Through Daniels instructions he advises Claire that she will not be able to leave the island at this point, but her baby will (I am not going to get into why this is. That is for another post. Like I said before, it has something to do with the hatch explosion). Claire will tell Kate to take Aron.

This leads to Locke. I think that Locke will be in Ben’s back pocket by the end of the season. He is already starting to manipulate him. During the last episode, Ben (or maybe Jacob) will convince Locke that he must stop anyone from leaving “for the good of the island”. Of course this is to prevent Daniel and Charlotte from leaving and telling Widmore the location of the island and all the islands secrets.

This will lead to a thrilling shootout. Locke begins to fire at the chopper trying to stop it at any means necessary. Jack will begin to fire back. Sawyer also steps out of the chopper and shields Kate and Aron while firing back at Locke. Kate is in the chopper holding Aron tight to protect him from the shots when she notices Sawyer fall back into the chopper bleeding heavily. He was struck by one of Locke’s bullets. Claire will attack John to prevent any more shooting in concern that stray bullets will strike her baby in the chopper. John will then overpower Claire and hold her tight to him in a hostage type of scenario. Jack and Locke then enter an intense staredown.

This then leads to a heated debate similar to what we saw in the final scenes of the season three finale. Jack intensely screams “We are getting off this island, John, and there is nothing you can do to stop us!!” Kate then screams to Jack as Sawyer is lying there bleeding to death. She screams “Help him!” Jack is at a crossroad. Does he get on the chopper and help Sawyer or does he stay with everyone (including Claire) on the island? As the only doctor and as the only person that can save Sawyer at this point, he (reluctantly) gets on the chopper. As it takes off he screams to Claire “I will come back for you, I will come back for you!”

The chopper takes off. Despite a vigorous effort from Jack and the limited supplies from the choppers first aid kit, Sawyer dies on the way back to the freighter, thus becoming one of the survivors that cannot be played off as dying immediately after the crash. I constantly think about what Michael said to Sawyer on the season one finale on the raft: “You either want to be the hero or you want to die”. Well, he did both. He was a hero by ultimately taking a bullet for Kate and Aron, and he also died in the process.

Think about it…. Sawyer dying in Kates arms as they approach the rescue freighter. Talk about a bittersweet moment, not to mention probably the most emotional scene in Lost (maybe TV?) history.

In upcoming episodes….

They find out that they can never go back to the island. I believe this is due to some type of blackmail from Charles Widmore. If they say what Widmore wants them to say, their friends on the island remain safe. Jack continuously questions his decision to get on the chopper. He is content with it in the beginning until he learns that Claire was his sibling. He then thinks about his final words to Claire and how he did not fulfill his promise on coming back for her. We see him experiencing some grief in “The Beginning of the End” as he starts the day off with a little vodka and OJ, but finding out Claire is his sibling is ultimately what pushes him into becoming “bearded Jack”.

I will probably get a ton of “holes in my theory” comments, but I think this a pretty dramatic and somewhat possible season finale. Go ahead, tear it apart boys and girls…. Or throw out some of your ideas for the season finale.

I like it. Top notch. I look forward to reading your future theories to see if any holes or inconsistancies are cleared up.

great theory, except i think claire gets on the chopper and dies off the island cos in the beginning of the end, jack doesnt want go back and if she stayedc then he would wanna go back. hope sawyer lives! +1

Well if nothing else, this theory was a good read. The finale is never predictable though so we will have to wait and see.

I was thinking the season finale might be an on island flash forward of one of the losties left behind.

    Thanks all,

belle, i know nobody wants Sawyer to die, but if the Oceanic 6 do get off the island this season, I do not know what Sawyers role in future episodes would be on the island. I would hate for him to become an (gulp) extra. I think it is only right if he goes out as a hero.

wow, thats a great finale prediction,I do think unfortunately that you’re right and Sawyer probably does not make it, BUT who is Kate talking about in “through the looking glass’ when she is talking to Jack at the airport and she says” he’ll wonder where I am” (or something to that effect) when she was trying to leave. Was she talking about Aaron or someone else? Hmmm

Kris, I think you right about Aron. I think she is referring to him when she is talking to Jack at the airport. I thought it might be Sawyer at first, until Eggtown and we saw that she has Aron.

remember, from the economist, Frank can only carry 4 people on the chopper at once (frank, des, sayid, and dead naomi, at that moment) also, i really don’t think the ‘he’ kate refers to is anyone significant. my friend brought up a great point in saying its probably just her parole officer. if not, then probably aaron who’s at home being baby-sat by the woman we saw baby-sitting him in kate’s episode.

hellomike, I think Frank could only carry 4 people because he was low on fuel, so maybe the ‘4 only’ rule won’t apply next time Losties leave.

Old conmen never die, they just make youthink they did :) but a good read. well done

I agree 100% AC. It is very annoying when someone posts a well-written, well-thought out theory and less than 12 hours later it is pushed off the lastest page and buried by a bunch of “not theories”, “observations that we knew years ago”, “questions”, “duplicate comments” or “polls”.

How about what ifs I guess that is ok. you sir are a hypocrite

Balone, “what if” statements ARE ok, because usually they lead to some resemblance of a theory. For example: What if many of the new members of this website used the “search theories” function to see what has already been observed before they post an old, drawn-out idea? I theorize that if they did this we wouldn’t have as many duplicate posts.

This is a great theory. This could explain why JAck is so upset apon his arrival home. I think however that maybe Claire dies in all the confusion. I don’t know about Sawyer dieing, it doesn’t seem like they would kill off a character like him. But hwo knows.. Locke is crazy!

I think sseason 4 will end with them back on the island, or at least i hope!

Great post! This is a very real possibility. I’m not so sure about the Sawyer dieing part though. Seeing as how the producers have said they do struggle with the should we or should we not go back to the island problem dilemma next season, they must leave some very important people behind that need rescuing. Just Claire isn’t really enough. I think it must be at least a few people that both they (Jack, Kate, Hurley, Jin, and the sixth of the Oceanic 6) and us care about. Otherwise we won’t really care if they go back or not. I think Sawyer will be alive on the island for this reason. I think it will be Claire, Sawyer, and Jin that are alive on the island that they want to go back for. Just a practical theory.

    +1 for awesomness
