We all know Walt is special — not exactly sure how, or that Walt knows exactly how.
Remember in Season One when Walt was playing Backgammon with Hurley? The dice kept coming up the way he wanted them to.
Faraday’s exercise with the cards was reminiscent to me of Walt’s backgammon game. Faraday may have been experimenting with powers he shares or hopes to share with Walt.

So Faraday would not be trying to remember the past, he would be trying to project onto the future.
Initially I thought the cards might have been to test Daniel for prediction ability or some such ESP type thing, but I’m more inclined now to think it was memory testing. Especially since they were doing it in front of the losties, as in nothing to hide, and most especially since it seems Daniel has had memory problems.
Cool idea Apple, but I’m inclined to agree with ozzig.
I DO wonder whether the Walt thing will turn out to be something major, or if it was just a red herring or scrapped plot idea. The fact that they haven’t returned to it at all (aside from his ghostly and fleeting appearances) makes me wonder how important he really is, especially since we’ve seen Ben off-island exhibiting all kinds of control and power… I would’ve expected superhero-Walt to have defeated him on the island or something…maybe that’s wishful thinking.
