If Ben is telling the truth about the freighter belonging to Mr. Widmore (in this case I think he is) then what would be Mr. Widmore’s motivation to hunt down Ben?
It seems that the Widmore corporation has been trying to locate the island for a while now as evidenced by the Widmore Corporation logo on Henry Gale’s Baloon. He also knows a great deal about Ben. While it is possible that he wants to use the island for a handsome profit and needs to get rid of Ben to do so, I do not think this is the case.
The episode “The Constant” shows Mr. Widmore bidding on the Journal from the Black Rock, the ship that is wrecked on the island. If the Widmore corporation worked with the Dharma Initiative it would not be necessary to purchase the journal. This leads me to believe that the DI and Widmore Corporation are competing against each other. If this is the case, shouldn’t the Widmore Corporation and Ben be allies? (The enemy of my enemy is my friend) It does not make sense to me that Widmore’s mission is to kill Ben. I would like to know your thoughts.
Also, someone recently brought up the fact that the video of Mr. Widmore beating one of Ben’s men was taped over the Red Sox game which Jack watched shortly before the submarine exploded. The window between when Jack saw the video and the explosion was very short. That would be the only time in which Ben could have taped over the video unless Mr. Widmore is on the island (obviously not because of the background of a street). Thus, how did Ben get the video and how did the filmer escape after being seen by Mr. Widmore?

I think the video was filmed by Widmores people, and then transmitted to the Looking Glass Station, were the women working down there recorded it on to a tape and sent it to Ben, this is why he told everyone it was flooded - in case of a traitor communicating with Widmore.
If the video was filmed by Wildmore, they wouldnt need to do it so hidden…
georie, i like the idea that widmore’s people made the tape, widmore obviously saw the person making the video and did not act surprised or anything.
I agree with Georgie, especially about Ben not wanting the traitor to find out about the station. Excellent observation.
Im personally not convinced that the sub was infact the the only means of transportation. To be perfectly honest i think it was a front, something tangible for people not ready to hear the reality.
I think the looking glass is the way off the island. some type of time/space distortion device is housed there, safely tucked away under the waves. the sub merely brings them to the surface…
Ep 406 also saw the return of one of the more puzzling lost phenomena, the whispers, which to best of my memory have been absent since season2 when the others were revealed to be a little more normal than led to believe.
but is this a method transportation or self projection? magic or science?
anyway…back to the point, i doubt Widmore would back Dharma financially if he had a conflict of intrests.
