Remember what Juliet said when she found Goodwin – “You knew this would happen!”

This theory is kinda an extension of one of my older theories about the future seeing abilities of the people on the island – mainly Desmond, and Mikhail – you may want to read it first - http://www.lost-theories.com/theories/2007/may/30/future-and-past-seeing-abiliti/
After seeing the episode I would like to add that Ben can also see into the future and has future flashes like Desmond. Remember what Juliet said when she found Goodwin – “You knew this would happen!” How could he know – there surely is only one answer. Furthermore, the ‘others’ seem almost scared of Ben – something must have happened before where Ben had got jealous of someone or someone had really annoyed him and they’d ended up dead – hence Ben can make things happen just like Desmond did when he saw Charlie die in through the looking glass – If he hadn’t told Charlie to go down to the looking glass he wouldn’t have died then at least – On the flipside if Ben hadn’t sent Goodwin on his mission he would still be alive.
I believe that you have to be actually on the island to do this, hence why Widmore is trying to find the island as it would make that person ‘very powerful’ indeed. Why you could even predict the lottery! Also, did anyone else notice the scene where Goodwin was disturbed and it looked like he was looking for drugs – it reminded me of the scene in Through the looking glass when Jack was looking for more oxycodone and also there was a parallel between Goodwin and Jack with his ex wife looking like Juliet and Juliet looking like Ben’s mysterious ex love.
intersting well thought out +1
I don’t quite agree that Ben can actually see or predict the future. I just think he is a good chess player and shrewd individual that plays the odds and people very well. Besides, Desmond explained that, “It doesn’t work that way”.
As far as Goodwin’s behavior goes, I got the feeling he was trying to cover up the fact that he received a chemical burn. Either he didn’t want to incur Ben’s wrath or Ben had Goodwin rig the Tempest to release toxic gas when needed and didn’t want anyone else knowing about it.
I’d agree with you shamballa if it weren’t for Harper’s reactions - she knew something would happen to Goodwin - I’d call it pretty good odds - remember Ben knows everything about the island whilst Desmond doesn’t yet.
Us Brits are yet to see the latest episode but I too believe as you do MrAlpert that Ben indeed has flashes like Des and uses then for personal gain. I wrote a little theory on this for anyone who wants to read, entitled Anything Des Can Do, Ben Can Do Better…
So you are saying that Harper can see the future as well? ;) I think she was simply using her insight of Ben and psychology skills to deduce that he would take action against Goodwin. But, in his typical “my hands are clean” fashion, Ana-Lucia does his dirty work for him. Problem solved.
I’ll concede that Ben knows more than most about the Island but not everything. I think he answered Locke truthfully about not knowing what Smokey is. He has been thrown for a loop on many occasions but has adapted (he always has a plan B). Why would he need a plan B if he knows the future?
I don’t know about that. All these people having flashes or seeing the future..
Goodwin was just trying to cover up for the fact that he had a chemical burn. And Ben just sent him out there because he knew it would be an extremely dangerous mission. He needed 2 people and he chose him as one.
Ben has no flashes forward. He is a manipulator. As i am sure he is manipulating Locke with the Widmore tape. He put things at work to stop Faraday as he knew they would sabotage his eventual last change of killing all the ‘bad’ guys on the island with (after the purge) another gas attack. As for manipulating, he uses Julliet to secure the gas escape and meanwhile have her kill the intruders. what is more interesting, is that ‘the other woman’ appeared and disappeared accompanied by some familiar hissing. She disappeared so quickly she almost looked as if she where some kind of projection. Or, in this world but then again, not. It also came to my mind that jack actually looked surprised that she disappeared after the hissing voices, but Julliet didn’t blink an eye.
We have seen ‘the others’ appear like this before. The question is if it has something to do with the powers of the island and them knowing how to use some. I also agree on the fact that Ben knows a lot more, but still not everything.
Mr Alpert, I’m firmly seated on the Ben is a master manipulater band wagon. I don’t think he sees into the future, he doesn’t have to. He’s so good at manipulating, he is one step ahead of everyone anyway.
It never ceases to amaze me how people always manage to jump to the most fantastical explanation to the evidence they have seen.
Reading this message board you can really begin to understand the tales of ancient civilizations where the moon is fighting a battle with the sun etc.
As the poster 2 above points out, “Ben is a master manipulator”.
I will stick with that until some firm evidence is provided that anything more sinister/complex is going on.
