However, it must be noted that most studies of mad scientists often use Freudian theories to discern their “Id” and “Ego” or rely on social theories while omitting economic factors for explaining why one would want to zap their noggin with purple rays.

The usual social-psychological explanation goes something like this: “When the mad scientist was a school boy, he was picked-on and as a results wants revenge through global conquest.” This unfortunately, is referred to as the Adolf Syndrom, for obvious historical reasons. Nothing of the sorts seems to have been hinted at about Daniel Faraday, yet, this may change with future episodes centred on this character. But, who knows?

However, most authors so far have left out the following: who the hell at Oxford funded the purple ray machine? What companies or conglomerates, if any, are invovled and have interests in such research?

For the prudent and astute LOST observer they can point out there are so far 5 fundamental companies in the series. Here they are in no particular order in the following list:

  1.  Hanso
  2.  Dharma
  3. Oceanic Airways
  4. Mr. Paik’s Business/es
  5. The Front for Ben and Richard (Billetos Mentos or whatever its called)

My theory is the HOW Faraday is brought into the chaos of LOST is related to one, a few, a couple, or all these companies/conglomerates funding his purple ray machine, directly or indirectly with Oxford U. knowing or unknowingly. This, will be a future episode! How the funding of his experiments led to being on a boat as part of a crack-team of drunks, ghosts whisperers, and quasi scientist-commandos mandated with carrying out a high-opening-low-altitude assult on the Island in an effort to disengage the Tempest station.

Consdiering, at some point, Faraday would have to explain how he obtained the numbers for the purple ray machine to someone. Perhaps the experiments financers and his Oxford Boss is the Faraday link to the Island?

Rim: Great pickup! It is very plausible. +1

Somebody would have indeed been funding the University Project Faraday was working on, with vested interest.

I am not sure if whoever was funding the early beginnings of “Dharma” was responsible, but given the time frame, unlikely.

I seem to think the corporate conglomerate’s might be where the funding came from, but I certainly wouldn’t rule out whoever Ben is involved with. That makes more sense to me.

    Nice work!

Rimland, I like it too! I’m surprised more members haven’t read or plussed it. It strikes me as very plausible. +1 from me.

I tend to go with the corporate conglomerates also, or Ben’s associates.

Really nice pick up, never thought about it myself!

Yes Annie, I share your sentiments. This post is very good and warrants further attention. Rim has done a brilliant job!

However, the recent trend seems to respond to the theories which are not as good, so the theory and the theorist can be insulted.

I guess that’s how some people get their ‘rocks off’
