during the flashbacks we have seen throughout the series we see that not one of the losties has had what we might call a “positive past” all have done something which would give cause for them to seek absolution here are a few examples
jack- allowing his marriage to crumble before his eyes when he could have stopped it, also part (in some opinions) of his fathers demise
kate- murdered her father
sawyer- conman
hurley- greed overtook him when he played those numbers on the lottery and some may say he was responsible for deaths when he won the money through the curse.
claire- driving the car that “killed” her mother
charlie- drug addict
in fact if you look at the people on the island who have benifited(example john and rose) from it they are the ones who have led honest and good lives so maybe the island is there heaven free of illness and the others survivors hell
the main reason for me coming up with this theory was the discovery of the wreckage despite reading other theories to explain this i still believe that in fact all the losties are dead, so how does this explain death on the island. well characters that have died on the island are the ones in my opinion who have fought demons and won for example charlie beat his drug addiction, shannon overcame prejudice when hooking up with saiyd boone was doing something useful with his life. so the characters who die have finally got release from there demons previously.
this brings me to believe that jacob is some sort of devil like creature and ben had died at childbirth and when he arrived in hell he was chosen by satan to be his right hand man
this led to power corrupting ben and he killed a lot of satans workers eg the dhama inititive and ruled hell by himself with his allies the hostiles the hostiles are the souls of those not yet granted release

when michael left hell that was his release as he was finally a good father which he had not been previously and he made a deal with the devil eg ben to release himself and walt thus showing him as a good father
so ben has power but not as absolute as he may like satan still rules eg jacob and that is why he whispers to locke help me as satan now feels that some good is needed in hell to rid it of ben
hell is not the place we may think it is a place where thise who have lived bad lives may find peace and the thinks thrown at them eg the crash the hatch with the numbers all test each person but only those who completely free themselves are released the flash fowards are what life could have been like if they haad survived the crash its all symbolic eg saiyd working for ben means he would have ended up serving satan again possibly as a torturer despite his best efforts not too
all the visitors to the island eg naiomi are also dead and it is too their hell
there is no escape all they can do is try to survive and maybe find peace as charlie shannon walt michael and boone did

dhamagirl, welcome to the site! Sorry to have to tell you this, but your theory has been debunked by the writers quite some time ago.
The Losties did survive the crash, it is not purgatory or hell and the flashforwards are cast in stone, just not in chronological order.

Just so everybody knows, Solararia and Chuck are the biggest fans of Lost ever and the rest of us might as well not watch it anymore because we could never understand it in the same way their great minds do.

The only issue here is that the theory has already BEEN debunked! RamFan. I never said I understand anything better than anyone else! Let me make this clear THE producers HAVE SAID THAT THIS THEORY IS WRONG.

I know this has “technically” been debunked. But does anything the writers say REALLY mean that much. I mean, if someone DOES hit the nail on the head, do you think they’re gonna say, “OH, Yeah!! You’ve got it figured out!!!”…and spoil the whole mess?! Just my two cents….
