LOST-Theories.com

I understand this post is chock-full of yet-to-be-proven assumptions, but so are most of the theories on this site.

There is one particular theory floating around out there as to why the “Oceanic 6” are the “Oceanic 6”. It deals with the fact that everyone who has left the island so far (Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley, and Ben) were very far away from the hatch when it exploded, therefore not exposing them to as much radiation or electromagnetism (or whatever it is).

If this theory holds true, as I suspect it will, then the remaining two members will be either Jin, Sun, or Sawyer. Lets assume (for the sake of argument) that it will be Jin and Sun. I don’t see any reason (or any point) for them not to leave the island together if they were able to do so.

So this leaves Sawyer on the island. Apparently he is perfectly able to leave the island because his distance away from the hatch when it exploded. But, it appears as if he is going to choose to stay on the island. This seems perfectly reasonable considering what he told Kate in the bedroom, right?: “I don’t wanna leave”

I understand he told Kate he wanted to stay, but would he really go through with it knowing that Kate was leaving? I don’t think he would. What, is he going to play backgammon every day with Locke? That is going to get boring after a while.

My gut is telling me that something is going to happen to him. If not death, then something that will keep him on the island against his will. I just cannot think of any logical reason he would willingly choose to stay on the island with the likes of Locke, Rose, and Bernard (what a party group that is) instead of catching a ride home with smokin’ hot Kate.

My personal theory goes back to something Michael said to Sawyer on the raft in Season 1: “You either want to be a hero, or you want to die”. Sawyer heroically risks (and maybe gives up) his life to help the “Oceanic 6” (specifically Kate) get off the island in a dramatic season 4 finale.

I am just trying to figure out why he would be the “odd man out”. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Maybe it is Locke in the casket and the reason Kate won’t go to the funeral home is that he somehow caused Sawyers death.

Ok. Thanks rugger. But why not Sawyer too? any thoughts?

I just don’t see the connection between leaving the island, and distance from the hatch. It seems like everybody is absorbing information, making judgments, and following through with the best decisions they can make regarding the alleged rescue. I have seen nobody making zombie-like motions because proximity to the hatch has mesmerized them in some way.

Could you expand on this a bit, because I just can’t see it.

BTW, I have purposely avoided spoilers, but it sure seems like we have another of the Oceanic Six - wasn’t that Desmond on the boat last week?

tottally agree, you convinced me that jin and sun are the other people that left the island

Quarantine, how can you not see the connection between leaving the island and the distance from the hatch? Everyone we have seen in a flashforward so far (off the island) were far away from the hatch when it exploded.

Desmond wasn’t even on Oceanic 815. How can he be one of the Oceanic 6?

    Quarantine—

The reason people keep equating who gets off the island with how close they were to the hatch when it blew is because the “side effects” that Desmond was suffering and that the other crew member died from are a result of passing to/from the island in combination with exposure to high levels of radiation. The closer you were to the hatch, the more exposure to radiation when it exploded/imploded and the sky turned purple.

Hi Quarantine, I don’t think Desmond can be one of the Oceanic 6 - he wasn’t even on the plane so how can he be one of the ‘survivors’? Same goes for Ben, Juliet etc.

I have had the feeling that Sawyer was going to die for some time now. I just think they have come to a sort of conclusion to his character. anyone else sense that?
