what if in last seasons finale flashfoward when Jack met Kate and shouted “we have to go back kate! we have to go back!!” what if he meant, not physically, but back in the same way desmond went back

hello fellow lost obsessed theorists.
this is my first post, and isn’t so much a theory more a thought, and it might have been said before, if so, i apologize. stay tuned though, i will be posting some of my theories soon, as i’m a big time fan of the show, and always trying to piece it all together.
after watching ‘the constant’ last week, (for the third time) i had a thought. We’ve known from series one that this is no ordinary island, and now have concrete evidence that the islands electromagnetic force can have some sort of time bending effect on people, at least the human consciousness anyway. Now i won’t say time travel, because its not that simple (and its not heroes). We’re less than halfway through series 4 and this has been revealed to us, although this element was introduced in ‘flashes before your eyes’, it could’ve been passed off as desmonds dream or something, but now its been explained quite well, and established as something that has also happened to Minkowski. the real life physicist Daniel Faraday theorised that time was like a ribbon (whatever that means) and we’ve seen the slogan ‘ only fools are enslaved by time and space’ in the show. Now think about this, what if in last seasons finale flashfoward when Jack met Kate and shouted “we have to go back kate! we have to go back!!” what if he meant, not physically, but back in the same way desmond went back, and do it right this time, because i believe time is changable, from the fact that desmond spoke to daniel in the past, then at the end of the episode he had ‘desmond is your constant’ written in his journal. the reason he wouldn’t remember meeting desmond in the past before we saw it in the show, is because it hadnt happened yet, and desmond had infact changed events in the past, so now daniel will remeber meeting des. make sense? also, i believe the old woman who des experienced in ‘flashes’ in the jewelery store (i forget her name) who tells him that hes not going to marry penny and hes going to go to the island because he has to, making him believe that time is unchangable, lied to get him to the island for whatever reason (to turn the failsafe key? but thats for another post) so i’ve sidetracked a little, but what if Jack telling Kate they have to go back, is meant the same way that Desmond or Minkowski (possibly others, various people that have guided Des to the island in the past)went back?
what do you think? please leave some feedback for my first post.

Maybe, but I think he means to physically go to the island. This is why he keeps going on the flights. He is trying to physically crash on the island.
Our current understanding of time jumping is that you have to be exposed to radiation or electromagnetism and then leave / enter the island on the wrong trajectory for the phenomena to happen.
It would also appear that it isn’t an ability you have control over so I would say you’re probably barking up the wrong tree here.
btw, welcome to the site.
Makes alot of sense, Nice theory there, thanks for the share.
quantum, welcome to the site! I hope you enjoy it here as much as we do.
On this theory, I’m afraid I have to go with Oceanic JC. He is right.
Looking forward to your next theories. :-)
I think that Jack is physically trying to get back to island, as Irocz28 pointed out, he’s been flying every weekend trying to get back. With the time travel bit, you can’t really change the past, so ever if they go back, they can’t change anything. All anyone can do is set in motion the events that are supposed to happen.
I like this idea.
Haven’t the producers said in a Podcast that important events (such as life and death etc) cannot be changed and that history has a way of correcting itself. This is confusing though because in The Constant because Desmond does change his fate by talking to Penny and Faraday. I wonder how their claim that the future is unchangeable can still be upheld after this episode?!
Its a possible idea
Raven, it could be that what is special about the island is that it is somehow possible to affect the future from there. I mean, it didn’t keep Charlie from dying, but it could be that you have to DO something more. Maybe that’s what the DI was trying to do? Figure out how to alter the future?
thank you for the feedback. raven, yes i also knew about the producers saying that things can’t be changed and about fate. but i to questioned that after ‘the constant’, i kind of thought that when daniel had ‘desmond is your constant’ in his book at the end, i thought that was a little nod that maybe you could change things. and why was the woman in desmonds flashes in ‘flashes’ so intent on making him not marry penny and go to the island, if that was definitely going to happen anyway. I should also add, i don’t mean not physically, but maybe crash on the island and ‘go back’ Desmond style. we already know that Jack knows about the wierd time shifting side effects now, and by the end of last finale, hes really messed up, and wants to get back to the island and do the right thing anyway possible. maybe the others that were left behind were already dead by this point. its just a thought anyway.
I am not obsessed. I can quite whenever I like. I simply CHOOSE not to.
Welcome. Always glad to see some fresh meat here. I mean faces, of course. Fresh faces.
That said, the time travel you are suggesting is contradicted and negated by everything we have seen of this phenomenon. We have seen nobody able to consciously control the time travel. We have not seen anybody do it without deleterious effects. We have not seen anybody do it without a great deal of confusion.
And, if Jack COULD will himself to go back, why keep flying over the ocean hoping for a plane crash? Why try to enlist Kate? Why not just DO IT?
I don’t think this holds water. Sorry.
