The very origin of the word in itself plays into the Losticon. Adelos means the Invisible, but the origin of Adelos comes from the Greek “aadhlov” which means negative particle.

The idea of the Island being the Greek island of Delos has been brought up in past theories. In Greek mythology the island of Delos is where Leto, mistress of Zeus and cursed by Hera to never give birth on land nor sea, nor under the sun, gave birth to Artimis and Apollo. Delos was thought to be a floating island that Poseidon anchored to the bottom of the Agean Sea with 4 diamond chains. To allow the birth, and as to not offend the curse by Hera. Upon the birth of Apollo a flock of swans encircled Delos announcing the birth of the God.

This has brought up many theories on where the Island is or what it is, Atlantis, Mu, Delos etc. The Island could be any or all of these, or possibly none of them. What draws me tword the Delos myth is not Delos itself but where Delos came from. This part of Greek mythology is divided on it’s origin. Some text on the subject says that Zeus pleaded with Poseidon to take the island of Adelos (the invisible) and anchor it to the floor of the Agean Sea. This would allow Leto to give birth with out bringing the curse upon Leto, since Adelos, now the visible island of Delos was not on land nor on the sea, but it’s still under the sun (if we take Daniel’s comment about how “the light doesn’t scatter quite right”) then this would play into how this doesn’t upset the curse “nor under the sun”.

Delos as a possible location for the Losties Island? Delos sits in the geographic center of the Agean Sea, not a real good shot at being our Island (which we believe to be somewhere in the South Pacific). The island of Delos also gets tens of thousands of tourists each year, again, not a great bet that Delos is our Island.

The other half of the text says that Poseidon did not want to give up Adelos his secret island, as it floated aimlessly at sea only he could find it. It still states that Zeus pleaded with him, but some say he only gave up “part of his island”. Now if we look at it from this part of the myth, we can get a whole new look at in new light.

There are many things that lead me to believe that the Losties crashed onto the very island that Poseidon coveted so much, as to almost deny Zeus the God of Gods, to have it. Adelos the invisible. The Gods of Greek mythology were jealous, greedy, and covetous. They scheemed, and plotted with each other, and played grand game of manipulation with the mortals upon Earth. This would make me believe in the half of the scholars that claimed Poseidon gave Zeus only part of Adelos and kept the Island for himself.

The very origin of the word in itself plays into the Losticon. Adelos means the Invisible, but the origin of Adelos comes from the Greek “aadhlov” which means negative particle. (Could this be our Negatively charged Exotic Matter that Dr Haliwax talked about in the Orchid video?) could it be another word for dark matter?

There are many other clues and refrences that allude to greek mythology, The Hatch names, Swan, Tempest, Hydra, Arrow, Staff, Pearl. Each of these have been referernced in other theories about Delos, and how they relate to Apollo and Artimis. One of the biggest clues to it being the ancient Greek island of Adelos, is the giant 4 toed foot. I believe this to be the remains of a statue in memorandum to the Titans of Greek mythology. The elder Gods the ones that ruled before the Olympians overthrew them. In traditional Greek art history statues were carved with only 4 toes. The explaination of this is, is that when a statue was carved with 5 toes it would appear to have 6 as the “pinky” toe is partially hidden by the others. Not until the renaissance with the likes of Michael Angelo, and Raphael did statues get carved in true anatomical correctness. So, a statue carved before that time would only have 4 toes by Greek standards.

There are other references, as well, Cerberus,(smokie) the guardian to hell according to the Greeks, though according to the Greeks he was a 3 headed dog beast(not quite sure on how he got so smokie), the brother of the Hydra and the Chimera. He was also known to be a great judge of who was and was not supposed to be in Hell. Smokie may not be Cerbeus itself but they do share many of the same qualities. Cerberus was also known to be fiercely loyal to Hades his master. We saw ol’ Smokie come running like a freight train after Alex was killed and Ben goes into his secret stone door with the glyphs all over it. Even Hurley says “did you just call that thing?” When he got there he seem quite pissed. Fiercely loyal.

Locke always saying a sacrifice the Island demanded, or You need to give the island something first. Another sacrifice to the Gods/Island. The ancient Greeks sacrificed all types of animals for every occasion, war, celebration, to keep bad omens away.

Also there are glyphs on all the really old structures we see. When Ben unleashed Smokie upon Keamy’s men there are glyphs on the stone wall that Ben enters. There are also glyphs found on the pillar next to the “wheel” in the frozen area near the “exotic matter”. When we see the temple for the first time I bet there will be more possiblly a complete statue.

We will just have to wait and see as the final seasons unfold. I thank you for taking the time to read through all this. I know the subject hs been discussed in different ways I hope this throws some new ideas into the mix.

There’s been other greek mythology hints in the show as well like the apollo bars. Good job on tying some of the mythology with the show. I wonder if anyone confirmed what the hieroglyphics mean next to the donkey wheel. +1 btw

There have been tons of them thrown in throughout the seasons, I only named a few of the more obvious ones. Penelope and Desmond parallels the Odyssey she had 108 suitors and waited years. I would like to find out what the glyphs on the pillar mean, they could just be gibberish. aestetic appeal

Good theories on the location of the island. I can’t wait to see what really happens in the next 2 seasons. Fascinating reading…I love this site, it gives me much to think about!!

I think you do really great research. I’ll bet you’re a grad student, am I right? I especially liked the Greek 4-toed reference. It’s so esoteric, it has to be right! Keep on hunting up more of these!

Thanks atruewalker, I try to put together well thought out and researched theories. Leaves less room for “what if…or what about this…. I actually barely graduated high school and failed out of college. School and I don’t see eye to eye. I figured I would learn more about Europe going there than sitting in a class room with someone telling me about it. glad you like the theory, check out some of my old ones I think you’ll find some thought stirring material in some of them.

Hey man i like the way all these greeks references tie in. Cool. Maybe smokie could also be a representation of the minotaur, half man half beast (thats if it has its own conciousness and that an experiment did go wrong involving human testing!

Do you know of any rituals involving sacrifice?? I know it killed Mr. Eko by slamming him about in a cross formation but with the pilot and one of the mercenaries he ripped their guts out.
