We may never know what the Numbers mean

— Valentinez

We won’t get answers to all our questions and all our theories could be debunked because the writers have the power to do whatever they want. Like using time-travel when they said there isn’t any time-travel and saying that the numbers will probably never be explained.

I don’t see how the writers are going to answer all these questions before the season ends in 2009-2010. A recent example is in The Shape of Things to Come when Ben calls the monster (which might well end up being a swarm of nanorobots after all), he says “we must get as far from them as possible”, yet they all go and have a good at the monster. And how come many of Keamy’s men are alive after the attack? How come Sayid can fix anything? How come Micheal can fix the radio even though he is the one who broke it? Why did the monster come in a Medusa spider form and kill Nikki? Why aren’t the losties afraid of the monster?

I’m sorry, but I have to ask, do you actually watch Lost?

  2. Valentinez Jun 7, 2008 9:15 a.m. Comment: 2

Yes, I watched every single episode till the 11th episode of season 4. Will watch the remaining tomorrow. So, you’ve got any answers?

  3. Kristi_Lost Jun 7, 2008 10:02 a.m. Comment: 3

Valentinez, the answers are obvious. When Ben calls Smokie, he sends him after Keamy and his men. He then says “We must get as far away from them as possible” which is exactly what they did. They didn’t go after Keamy.

Yes, some of Keamy’s men survived Smokie, so what?

Sayid learned many things working for Iraqi Intelligence. He now how to do many things. What’s the big deal there?

If Michael was the one who broke the radio, doesn’t it stand to reason that he knows how to fix it?

Nikki let loose the Medusa spider.

The losties are most definitely afraid of Smokey.

    See that was easy.

Even though your points don’t really demonstrate that the writers are making up the story as they go along, I kind of agree with you. Although the blatant misinformation presented to the fans about time travel may be one example they are making things up as they go along. For now I personally think that when they said there is no time travel in the show that may have been to keep it secret until it was revealed. But IMO the producers shouldn’t do these question answer sessions in podcasts and what have you if they plan on lying to everyone to keep things under wraps. We fans are tormented enough as it is with all the unanswered questions and missing links, we don’t need them lying to mess us up even more.

They stood mere metres from where smokey was indulging itself and had a good long look.

For the Nikki part, it was confirmed that it was smokey in spider form. Why would smokey be in spider form?

I doubt Micheal had enough time to look and remember what wires he pulling when he was breaking the radio. Unless of course he was dismantling it and not really breaking it. But then he would have remember exactly what he pulled out, etc.

They are afraid of smokey only when they encounter it. Not when they decide to go strolling in the woods.

And why don’t they ask the right questions when they get the chance to?

In a recent interview with the actor who plays Ben, he stated that the producers “aren’t playing around. They know exactly what they’re doing and they know just how it’s going to play out.” Sorry, debunked.

I’m a big lost fan and one who kept faith after the hatch period so I’m hoping this doesn’t blow up Prisoner-style. That said, I doubt Ben what the producers have in mind for what’s ahead.

  8. YinGirl Jun 7, 2008 11:55 a.m. Comment: 8

And at what point did they know how it’s going to play out if they planned on writing off Jack’s character in season 1 only to have him become a major character. Besides a theory is only debunked when proven wrong. The actor playing Ben has no idea how the story will be played out. According to the actors and actresses, none of them know what lies beyond their script on the day of the shoot. So how does the guy playing Ben know the producers have the story planned out if he isn’t privy to the story details to the very end.

I fully agree with the author. The fags who make lost are morons

If you guys are so annoyed with the show, why bother watching? It’s annoying me just reading all of this whining.

@Valentinez chewbacca Dharmajacket. kid’s right mates. Your all a bunch of moaning wankers.

    Valentinez,

I’m curious. Are you suggesting that when someone breaks something that by definition they are not able to fix it?

I base my question on your comment about Michael fixing the radio he broke.

Haven’t you ever broken something and then fixed it as well? To me that seems like a non-issue.

On Sayid, again it seems like a non-issue. In the very first episode of the series he explains that he was a communications officer. Anybody with a mechanical and/or electrical/electronics background could do what Sayid does… It’s not that big of a deal.

As for the Losties fear of the smoke monster, again the very first episode of the series clears that right up. They are scared to death of that thing.

To me these are minor points that are non-issues and aren’t that hard to believe.

    HUH?

  14. Valentinez Jun 7, 2008 10:27 p.m. Comment: 14

@kid_vicious30, first, I never said anything like dharmajacket if you did bother to read my posts. I’m not annoyed with the show. In fact, I’m enjoying the ride a lot. Its the writers that are annoying me.

@britishchib, lol at you for using foul language over the internet.

@Secrets, the Sayid part is a bit far fetched (he even fixed a computer that was shot and an old one at that) but still acceptable. Micheal broke a radio so that it cannot be used by anyone. Its not like he broke a lego toy or something. I doubt I’ll be able to repair my PC if I broke it. And he probably smashed it to pieces. But you’re right- these may be non-issues. And for the monster, forget the first episode, think about all the others where they decided to go strolling in the woods. They’re not thinking about the monster then? Its clear that the writers are building up as they go along. For example, Paolo and Nikki weren’t meant to die that early. Same for Ana Lucia. I just don’t want the writers to explain a whole lot of things by just saying “the island did it”.

    pretty shi††y theory.

  16. Valentinez Jun 8, 2008 5:44 a.m. Comment: 16

llort, being fanboy-ish there, aren’t you? Btw, I read somewhere that Eko died because the actor wanted to return to the UK where he lived. So, that’s one point more in favor of the theory.

I agree with you,Valentinez. In fact,i have similar theory. It will be fun to watch the last final episode,do. Or you just wrong:) But,i think u right.+1

  18. Harford93 Jun 8, 2008 12:16 p.m. Comment: 18

No, they have the whole thing planned they even know the ending. The reason for them not answering some of the questions because they are big questions and they are afraid they might lose ratings. They have said that most of the questions will have to wait till the end.

  19. _oceanic6_ Jun 8, 2008 8:13 p.m. Comment: 19

they totally know the ending… damon and carlton have said so thousands of times!

  20. Valentinez Jun 8, 2008 9:23 p.m. Comment: 20

They may know the ending but not the explanation for many of the mysteries. The plot in general is laid out but they threw too many mysteries in. And at the start they said that everything could be explained scientifically.

  21. scirillo Jun 9, 2008 9:15 a.m. Comment: 21

As much twist and turns there are, (and have been and will be) the writers have to have a map of what they want to do. That would be the only way that when things are explained, they make sense. If they were just going week to week, it wouldnt “flow” like it does. They know where they are going with this.

Also one point to make - Valentinez you said, “I’m not annoyed with the show. In fact, I’m enjoying the ride a lot. Its the writers that are annoying me.” Well, it is the writers that make the “ride”, so to not like them is like saying I like to go swimming, I just dont like water! :)

  22. Irocz28 Jun 9, 2008 2:31 p.m. Comment: 22

Ok, I am gonna break this down very easy for all of you.

    1) Someone said, “The writers know exactly what they are doing and how it is going to play out. Sorry, debunked”

What are they supposed to say? We have no idea where it is going and we are making up each episode as we go. You should be debunked for making such a remark.

    2) And Valentinez is absolutely right in some aspects (although i dont get the whole spider=smokey thing). They do not know exactly how every little mystery is going to be played out and explained. For example, when Locke discovered the vault, nobody had determined yet what would be down there. It wasn’t until between season 1 and 2 when it was decided to put Desmond down there.

So other things, like the 4-toed statue and the numbers did not have a definite explanation when they were introduced. That stuff is made up as they go.

    3) Some mysteries may go unexplained. So what? Annie, for example. All I read anymore are theories on “who Annie grew up to be” or “where Annie is”. If we never see or hear from Annie again, I bet there will be people out there b*tching about how they didn’t explain that mystery. It is not a mystery. She was Ben’s childhood friend that probably just moved off the island and lived a normal life after that.

What else is there to say? Should we have an Annie-centric flashforward episode of her taking her kids to school, or going to the hairdresser, just so we have “closure” on what happened to Annie? Most Lost fans (casual viewers) don’t even remember Annie.

The big (and important) mysteries will be explained and I do believe they “generally know” where they are going with the show.

i kind of agree with the author. i feel like the producers aren’t being completely truthful when they say that they had it planned from the beginning. they wanted jack to originally die in the pilot episode, but ABC wanted him to live. michael emerson (ben) was only supposed to be in a few episodes but wowed the producers/writers and so was given a larger part. there’s other random casting trivia around the internet if you google it, so i’m wondering how the producers could say that they knew what was going to happen if they originally wanted such different outcomes for two of the main characters (jack and ben). seriously… imagine if ben was only around for three episodes!
