What Harper said to Juliet about Ben being “exactly where he wants to be” was interesting too, as Ben would have had to arrange this “fixture” if you like with his people.

In the season finale, we hear the whispers once again, before Martin’s men are ambushed.
I believe that the whispers are a sign that the Others are close by. In most scenes we see, the Others are always close by whenever the whispers start. For example:
In “The Other Woman”, Jack and Juliet hear whispers right before Harper appears before them, this could only mean that she was able to “teleport” before them, or of course being close by with the Others; and in the season finale, we hear the whispers right before the Others ambush Martin’s men. Coincidence?
What Harper said to Juliet about Ben being “exactly where he wants to be” was interesting too, as Ben would have had to arrange this “fixture” if you like with his people.
Concluding, I believe that the whispers are in some form related to the Others. I also think the time when Richard “surrendered” himself to Kate and Sayid, they didn’t bother with the whispers, I think they can choose when to use them or not.
but what about when the whispers related to the deaths of Russo and Alex’s boyfriend (i forgot his name). The others weren’t involved in those deaths, and it was before ben signalled to them to come help.
There was some whispers when sawyer was attacking a boar too. also if you look at the transcripts of what the whispers are actually saying (on lostpedia) you’ll find some interesting things, when shannon dies one of the whispers is actually Boone talking about his sister and greeting her when she dies, and then another that is heard is Shannon asking “what’s going on?!?” or something like that.
My theory on the whispers is that they are the whispers of the dead spirits on the island that you can’t see (Unlike Christian) Christian is a good example because only a select few of the losties can actually see him but others can’t. (See Season 1: White Rabbit) but yeah i think maybe the others can somehow whisper back to the dead or they can hear the whispers of the dead especially well.
In their own quiet way ‘the whispers’ have become the most persistent and maddeningly elusive mystery of the show.
I know a lot about them - as KyleMii was stating about how they can seem to chatter amongst themselves, or be voices of deceased people - and any idea I see, or come up with, about them can be disproved by some other element that disrupts the logic.
I think voices of the deceased is as close to the truth as I can get to, at the moment. But some of those voices belong to people who have never been on the Island - and that I struggle with. . .
