Not a theory. More of an observation actually.
I just watched the whole season 1 and from what I have observed Charlie has been on almost a hundred life-and-death situations from season 1 alone. I don’t know if this is of any importance right now, I just thought I laid it out before his memory fades into oblivion.
Now, that I’ve said it, go and watch it and spot as many near death situations Charlie’s been in as possible. The first one that I noticed is when the moment the plane hit turbulence and all was fuzzy and in chaos, he was almost killed by a food cart. In that velocity and the impact it might have caused, he could’ve died immediately.
The second one was when the plane crashed and he’s walking around the crash site all shook up and then this fireball of an engine just drops right beside him! One more inch and he could’ve died.
And then there’s the bit where him and Jack was trapped in the cave. Luckily, he survived without a scratch. And of course, who could forget the heart pounding scene where he was hanged by Rom in a tree and Jack was trying to revive him. I could go on and on but my fingers will hurt. If you guys spotted a near death situation involving Charlie and before Desmond and his future sights came into the picture, feel free to post a comment.
So anyhow. Are these events supposed to mean something? I dunno since he’s dead already so it wouldn’t really matter so…

I don’t think it’s something that will affect the future of the show, but more something we can look back on and kick ourselves for not noticing.
I dunno, you may or may not have noticed, but remember the letters on Charlie’s fingers? “LATE FATE” Another reference to Charlie cheating death again and again? Who knows?

I”ve often thought that Charlie should have died when Jack revived him. And everything after that was a course correction. I think Jack might be the Chosen One. A person with the ability to change fate.
yep agree charlie was meant to die a lot
dont forget in the pilot where his leg is caught and jack pulls him up when they are running from the smoke monster….it looks like jack knew to run back and help him there too .
Yeah me and my girlfriend were watching season 1 again and i firmly believe charlie was supposed to die. And another thing we noticed was the fact that charlie was on the back of the plane and came to the front to do heroin, while Benard, who is the only survioving member of the “tail section” was supposed to be on the front of the plane. Meaning that the island had no reason to keep charlie alive as it had wanted benard the whole time, possibly even keeping all the other tail section surviors alive just long enough to keep benard safe. any takers
ooooohh I like this, and consequently agree. Charlie has been ‘saved’ a number of times, even before Des’s visions, but why?? So as I replay S1, 2 a nd 3 I will look for the things that Charlie has done to save or assist others, and the ramifications of those actions. If Lost4815162342 is right, or leans to the correct (which I sort of agree with, but is not specific to Jack), then what are these ammendments doing to the whole? Good stuff…..+1
i’ve thought about this too, out of all the Losties i am sure Charlie has had the most near-death experiences!
