I know all the numbers are referenced a lot other than just Hurley using them to win the lottery and in the hatch but I think each one individually means something other than just a number in a series.
1) Ben’s tumor is on his 23rd vertebrae
2) the 23rd psalm episode
3) Gate 23 is where the survivors left from the airport
4)the expiration date on the apollo bar that Kate eats is the 23rd.
5)Jack sits in seat 23A on the plane.
6)there were originally 23 survivors of the tail section.
7) The deck that fell when Hurley walked on it was built for 8 people but had 23 on it.
8) Penny Widmore lives at 23 Danismore Gardens.
9) Karl is in room 23 to be brainwashed.

hmmm…that’s very interesting. I think it’s just the writers trying to mess with us. The casual viewer wouldn’t notice any of that, so the writers are adding weird stuff in there to keep the show more mysterious.
The writers have done this with the numbers ever since the show began and especially since the numbers were introduced. Well what do you think they all mean? That is where the theory would be.
The numbers are probably just that. Numbers. It may be a way, like lost4815162342 mentioned, just a way to keep us all guessing. Then again? Who knows? ;)
I do agree that it might be the writers just trying to mess with us in a way but also that I should have researched this more before posting so I’m sorry if this offended anyone that I didn’t but if anyone is interested in maybe trying to find out more, comment and I’ll look around at what the possible meanings of the numbers could be.
I have a book, Finding Lost, and it shows an in depth look at every episode, and there is a section for each episode that shows the number references, there is at least 5 for every single episode.
