This could explain why we havent seen Jacob in a while. It could also explain the bad things that had happened on the island after the O6 left.

I was looking over the 4th series again and as we remember when Locke gets orders from Christian, Christian does not seem sure about what he is saying to Locke.
He seems to be avoiding any conversation about what Locke is there for.
Perhaps He told Locke that they had to move the island and didnt tell him how because he wanted Ben out of the way so that he could take the island for himself.
With Ben out of the way, he may not feel welcome at the island because Locke told him that Jacob told him to move the island and did not mention Christian

It’s hard to tell whether Christian is just being typically elliptical, or whether there is more to it as you suggest. No one ever asks the question why, or at least we never hear it as the audience.
Personally, I think Christian is being evasive because the writers aren’t exactly sure how they want to play out the rest of the season, and how exactly Claire fits into the rest of the series. Good thoughts.
Heh… you might be right about that, lockeko…
Agreed… good thoughts.
I don’t think Locke is supposed to be the leader. He picked the wrong stuff when Alpert visited him. However, Ben was done (as thought by Jacob or the powers of the island)…he got cancer, but Jack saved him, and then, knowing that once you move the island you can’t come back, Ben was the perfect candidate. Now, John is still on the island, and his purpose will be to get Jack back….
I think it was interesting that Christian was speaking on Jacob’s behalf. When Locke exits the cabin, Ben asks what Jacob told Locke. Locke said that they need to move the island, but he NEVER tells Ben that Christian Shepard told him that by speaking on behalf of Jacob. I have a feeling if Locke had mentioned that detail that things may have played out differently.
