Figgy, what would we do without you to set us all straight ? Once again I find myself in the predicament of agreeing with you to a point but sensing that your delivery might not be well-received. You are correct that the writers are not copying other people’s movies. That does not mean they aren’t above using a theme or scene of 2 from time to time. Writers do it all the time. But good writers will give it their own little twist.

But then, that’s not exactly what you’re talking about, and yes I do get what you are saying. I don’t think most people are thinking that the witers stole the plot of Frequency, etc. Just noting “hey what a coincidence”. Let’s face it, there has been precious little new anything for discussion for a long time. People are restless. As apparently, so are you. And myself, for being here. Ding ding, round 2.

Figgy, I would be inclined to agree with your statements regarding writers.

Although, the writers of Lost have been inspired by many of their own favourite writers, movies, tv shows, books, comics, games, etc., I feel it is an absolute insult for anyone to presume that they lack in creativity so desperately that they would essentially stoop to the level of what amounts to plagiarism! I can’t think of anything more insulting and degrading to a writer! I find it very offensive!

PS, I have noted the level of mind numbing crap and questions long ago answered, which exist in multitude and plenty on this site recently, and hope that once S4 begins, people will resume with the viable, top notched theories we have become accustomed to!

BTW; I apologize to anyone who views this as an elitist attitude. It’s the plain truth, like it or not!

Actually Figgy, I agree with you….and then I don’t.

Like you, I do not believe that the writers are simply copying other storylines, but I do believe that they are paying homage to them. They are simply and subtly paying their respects to the great Sci-Fi writers who preceeded them.

You may laugh, but Star Trek, the original series, had some of the most creative and imaginative writers around. Long before LOST was ever a glimmer in our eyes, D.C. Fontana, one of the lead writers of Star Trek, wowed viewers with stories of time travel, parallel universes, mystery and murder. And we all know Stephen King to be a MAJOR influence of the writers…they’ve said so themselves.

I look at LOST like a collage of all the great and innovative stories of the past meshed together with some completely mind-boggling new ideas. A delishious ragu of the old and new.

What the fans are doing is pointing out the obvious and the not-so-obvious parallels in the storyline.

People are thinking and talking and getting creative with the way they see the show. If I were a writer, I could receive no higher compliment.

Well, it is the last chapter and ends Friday I believe…. so it will overlap with LOST and they finally reached Sam’s co-ordinates today… so this week maybe a good week to jump back in, but you are right… it was a little slow.

Well ozzig, there is no harm in that. I actually get about 45% of the info from DarkUFo, but all the speculation is purely mine. Speculation is what makes LOST run (but in this case, it doesn’t run… it kinda stands still) The sad thing is… we won’t know anything until the end. In essence, we are kinda wasting our time on this site. But, it passes the time.

Ozzig, I wish I would have been like you, and got out of that game. You want to know what frustration is, I have completed every single thing in that game, and because of one silly little obstacle I can’t overcome, it has only diminished the pleasure of being able to accomplish the final leg of the journey. Figgy I only mentioned the guy in frequency’s name was Jack Shephard because I thought it was a cool coincidence, since Elizabeth Mitchell was also in it.. Any way I’m all for a good rant so I hope it helped you get it out of your system.

In a couple of days we will have fresh episodes and hopefully fresh ideas ,but people are always going to look for clues to Lost in books, movies etc.

I totally agree with you! LOST is a genuine, unique show and there is no way they are remaking anything with it!

JW, that’s a good idea about a chatboard, many posts, including this one, would be better suited there. I’ve often thought it myself. But don’t know if it’s feasible.

In general: In the meantime, there isn’t one, so when members get in the mood to waste some time and have a little harmless fun, it goes to posts such as this, where anyone has the option of participating or ignoring. Figgy did create his own post so as to keep it from intruding on others. That way, anyone who doesn’t want to read a message board doesn’t have to.

StepItUpJack: I do fail to understand why, of all the non-theory message board type posts that have been on this site forever, this one was singled out for objection.

Ozz, I don’t think it was this particular thread which was being singled out. I believe it was a general statement in response to Figgy’s post!

What goes on in a post is nobody elses business in my opinion! Carry on! And, by all means, have as much fun as possible! If someone doesn’t like it, they don’t have to read it or comment on it.

What did annoy me to no end this morning, is to see that a quality post such as AC’s pushed over to the 2nd. page because of all the crap people are posting! I need not verify, just check the zeros and + 1 and minuses.

I personally requested Jeff last year, to place a seperate section for questions, and was informed that it is not feasible. We have to rely on peoples good common sense! The regulars who have been around for some time, ask very pertinent questions, which has value in my opinion, and I have great respect for that process. However, it does promote the opportunity for abuse, as we discussed earlier in this post.

Dab & Ozz, i dont think this problem will change, the people who join the forum the more posts there will be.. I think its important to remember to always +1 quality theories so at least there is another chance for them on the highest rated pages.Maybe we need to flag not theories when they get towards the end of the page also.

WTF, I did go back and flag some not theories, several pages, but I’m only one. It’s a hard call. Questions and observations are important too, I don’t want to minimize them, and they need a chance to be seen by all. Some postings though, like complex theories, need to be visible a little longer for any in depth discussion. People should remember that just because it has disappeared from the front page doesn’t mean it’s “old”.

WTF, I rarely ever minus a theory unless it’s Trollish or Offensive! I simply don’t bother with them. If I believe a theory has merit, I read it and plus it! I am all for encouraging people so I don’t feel compelled to say anything further on the subject!

The flagging is everyones responsibility and I think you absolutely know the kind of posts to which I am referring. My intent is not to turn this into something that it isn’t. I am exercising my right to free assembly to which I am entitled, as you or anyone else is to theirs.

Dab, Im just saying if we flag the not theory posts when they get to the end of the page (not to punish or anything) just to move them it will free up space on the main page for the serious theories. I know you always comment and plus posts positively, and all Im saying is if everyone actually voted on the theories they really liked (i think there are a lot of non voters and thats fine too) but for the really good theories to be seen they need high scores to be in the top rated pages.

I felt it may lead some others to believe otherwise, if you know what I mean. I have already read a complaint in another post, from a relative newcomer who feels there is “an elitist” group on this site!
