Nothing is a coincidence.

Hi. This is my first post. I’m not really sure is this has been posted before, but I heard that the producers said that clues to the answers are in the pilot. So, I was watching the pilot and I found a few things interesting.
1) Jack seems to know exactly which suitcase to go into to find the sewing kit. he doesn’t search through any first. He immediately skips over the other ones closer to where he was and picks that one.
2) Kate says that Charlie looks familiar and asks if they’ve met before. Yea, it could be from Charlie being in Drive Shaft. But, i don’t think she would have asked if they met before. Asking someone if you’ve met them before would imply that you knew them at one point or another.
3) When Jack finds a secluded place to stitch the wound, it seems like he’s looking for something…or someone…like Kate, maybe? Could it be that he knew that Kate was going to wonder over there and be able to stitch him? It’s definitely possible.
4) He also seems pretty confidant that Kate can stitch him. Even though he knows that she has no idea what she’s doing. According to her, the only time she ever did anything close to that was sewing her drapes and that was with a sewing machine.
5) Jack also seems really confidant, when the plane hits turbulence and he’s talking to Rose, that their going to be ok. He might just be trying to stay calm so that she doesn’t get worried. But, then he seemed so calm as the plane was going down, as if he knew exactly what was happening.
6) Also, Rose knows that Bernard is alive. I don’t believe this is a coincidence. Nor, do i think that Rose just had “faith”. I think she knew exactly where he was and just waited for the tailies to be found.
7) The most interesting thing I noticed was that the first time the people hear smokey on the beach Rose says that the noise it made “sounds familiar”. Last i checked that’s a pretty unique sound. Where else could she possibly have heard it?

The Rose ‘sounds familiar’ business was a kind of in-joke nod to the sound effects people. They created the whirring noise of ‘the monster’ from the sound of New York taxi cabs (the fare machine, I’m guessing - I’ve never been in one!). The full dialogue goes:
Rose - That sound that it made, I keep thinking that there was something really familiar about it.
Shannon - Really? Where are you from?
Rose - The Bronx.
Your other points are good observations, mind. And I kind of like the thinking. I don’t go with it (I’d reckon more people would exhibit the sense of having been there before, and ‘woken up’ to it by now if that were the case) but there’s no arguing that you’ve been watching closely with an open mind. That’s the attitude that’ll help you crack Lost if ever there was one!
I have seen that kind of theory somewhere here before, and yes, I have thought of that too. Or maybe not actually BEEN there, but there could be some kind of weird time distortion that makes them FEEL like they know more about everything than they should know in their position. I don’t know. Sorry for my poor ability to explain what I mean. That’s why I don’t make so much theories myself.. :/
Your points do make for a good argument that they’ve been through it before. They wouldn’t have to actually remember everything, could be just a subconscious knowing.
Thanks for the support guys. AngeloComet, i never knew the thing about the way the monsters noise was made. You have a good point, since Rose said she was from the Bronx.
sawyerlove, I’m not a really big fan of the time loop theory or ‘they’ve been there before’ theory, but I have to say you’ve made a convincing case towards swaying me to the dark side. lol
I’m still not convinced, but you bring up such good points, you get your +1 for swaying me just a little!
Welcome to the site. I hope you enjoy it here as much as we do!!!
Annie79, thank you for the +1. I’m happy I was able to sway your opinion a little. Thanks for being so nice even though you don’t completely agree with me. Hope to see you more on the site! =]
Sawyerlove, Nice Post, and I have to agree with all of the stuff i am also rewatching the pilot episodes, and the thing that struck me was the thing with rose…. I think the brox has nothing to do with it, that kind of (comedy) add on would be present, but if you notice when she says that is the background, the scene right before it when they are on the plane, Jack says, “It’s almost over.” and his voice actually goes into like a mechanical voice change, and then the plane sounds of the plane going down, Which i believe are the same sounds the “Monster” is making, because i believe this Monster is a “Security system” to keep people out of the Dharma hatches, and out of the jungles, and it is like a Nightmare Initiating Sequence Security System, Because all the other things that go on with it, Like Echo seeing his brother, drives people from their deep fears or somthing along those lines. Sorry if bad post my 1st also Thanks
i have thought of that too. I think its all Deja Vu.
I hate these time loop theories. There has been no evidence whatsoever. None. Nada. Zero. In place of evidence we find the most innocuous pieces of dialogue, the most innocent glance, the most mundane turn of phrase and twist it until it is unrecognizable, and can be squashed and pounded into the time loop theory.
So if it is a time loop, so what? How does it make the story better? And then what? Another 6 year series showing them making different decisions? Or the same ones? How exciting.
